Hi all,
Does anyone know what the process is if your passport is maliciously reported lost or stolen and subsequently cancelled?
I arrived at the airport ready to take a flight on the 4th of May, with my passport in hand (which had 4 years left on it), only to be told at the check in desk that my passport had been cancelled and I couldn’t fly. Fortunately, the airline were amazing and very understanding and credited my flight, so I am waiting to take that a.s.a.p. but I’m now waiting for a renewed passport (which I paid for) and have been for the last 8 weeks, with no light at the end of the tunnel.
I have spoken with over 30 different people from the passport office and have explained my story, but no one seems to want to know at all. Following a Google search, I found a government issued document online, which is meant for passport office staff that says that if someone’s passport is fraudulently and maliciously reported lost or stolen and subsequently cancelled, then a replacement passport should be issued to the victim, urgently, free of charge, but no one seems to know about that and I’m consistently hitting a brick wall with getting any help with either my paid for replacement passport or receiving any empathy or assistance with regards to my situation.
I’m desperately trying to not become frustrated with the staff I speak to on the phone, because I’m fully aware that it is not their fault and they are being hung out to dry by their bosses, their dire processes, antiquated systems and complete lack of urgency, but it’s becoming very difficult to maintain my calm after hour upon hour upon hour to an office where I’m receiving no help whatsoever!
Does anyone here have any experience with this and if so, did you have any luck with a resolution? If so, how did you resolve it?
Many thanks in advance!
