Hi all,
A bit of advice please?
My husband and I had our personal belongings stolen in the US on holiday on 27 April – passports included. We travelled back on emergency travel docs (which was a nightmare to sort at the UK consulate in the US) as soon as we came back we applied for replacement passports as we had pre booked travel (Nov 2021) to the US again to scatter my father’s ashes on 2 June
Appreciate a lot of people have been stuck in the system and we only applied on 4th May, however for us, this feels like an exceptional circumstance. I can’t not be there to scatter my father’s ashes – it would absolutely destroy me. It was traumatising witnessing our rental car being broken into (whilst we were in the car!) and our bags being taken in San Francisco and then coming to the heart sinking realisation that our passports were also taken knowing the trip we had planned with the rest of my family to lay my father to rest.
We travel on 2 June, I have emailed all upgrade teams out of desperation, put in a request to upgrade to an emergency application, called endlessly but we’re getting nowhere.
Should I turn up to Newport begging for help? Does anyone have any thoughts on what I can do at this stage. I’ve not been sleeping and I know it’s daft to feel this way over passports, but I’ve never felt so defeated and upset.
Any help/advice will be truly welcomed

May 26, 2022 at 9:47 am #16290BegailParticipantWorking into the night. I should never had got this far. Im going on for 7 weeks, waiting forever. I have written to the GOVT home Office, and to my MP. I renewed my South African Passport in Feb in South Africa, with finger prints it took one week. Thats a third world country. Maybe UK home office should go and chat to them how its is done.
May 26, 2022 at 10:31 am #16293M RobParticipantJust a quick update.. after an absolute horror show by HMPO, i had a call from the Peterborough office to say upgrade all sorted and i could collect from london today, which i have just done. We go tomz, it was a close call but don’t lose faith. Good luck to u all.
May 26, 2022 at 11:23 am #16296hannahgParticipantHello. I’m currently under the 6 week mark for an upgrade, but have been asked to fly this sunday urgently for work. I put in the request, but due to being under the 6 week mark, they’ve said I am not qualified for an upgrade.
As my work is pretty critical (as I work in the educational industry), I was curious whether there was another way to push this. Do I keep calling or turn up at my local depot? I’m pretty desperate (like many people), but as this is business critical, then surely it should be pushed through?!May 26, 2022 at 11:29 am #16297KS1982ParticipantHi All, got a call this morning from the upgrades team collecting passport on Saturday from local office. They are working through all upgrades, please make sure your upgrade is submitted correctly by requesting a callback as these are worked first before all direct requests they receive.
I’m travelling on 31st May, they are also aware of the jubilee weekend and have been tasked with ensuring all those eligible for an upgrade are contacted in time to collect.

May 26, 2022 at 11:32 am #16298NaomiParticipantDose anyone know if the passport offices are open Thursday and friday next week we are due to fly sunday the 5th so just trying to work out when will be good to go down there dont want to get turned away because to early but also if the bank holidays aren’t a working day for them gives me less time to get my passports sorted. Oh the stress is so real 😭

How do you request a callback from upgrade team? I thought email was the correct approach, as I was advised by progress team. Also, are they dealing with those within 6 weeks of application? ThanksMay 26, 2022 at 12:08 pm #16305KS1982ParticipantI originally spoke to the progress team however, call 01633 745709 they can do it as well. All they do is request a callback which happens within 24 hours in my case 2 hours later, you then give them your details application date, date of travel etc then you get an automated email saying thanks for submitting an upgrade request please send your evidence to “provide correct upgrade team email” then you just have to wait for the final callback confirming your passport can be processed and they discuss whether you wish to collect at nearest office or have it posted to you.
No all upgrades are processed for passports over 6 weeks old I’ve been told this several times now.

I’m in the same boat as you all.. renewed my passport in March, requested an upgrade last Wednesday, fly 1st June and still nothing. Hoping to hear by Monday but just wondered – when the upgrade team call to say your passport can be collected, do they give you a reference or do you just turn up to get it? Local office is London if that makes a difference? I’m 7 months pregnant and never needed a holiday more!!!
May 26, 2022 at 12:15 pm #16308KS1982ParticipantHey you don’t get a reference you just use you application number, what you will see is suddenly you passport application status change etc. I travel 31st and got a call this morning, try chasing again with another email to the upgrades team just with the date of travel in the subject line.

May 26, 2022 at 1:19 pm #16315passportwoesParticipantMy 10 yr old’s passport has been in ‘Your application is being processed’ status since 7 May. We fly away on 2Jun so really getting stressed. We were asked to send proof of travel to Newport on 18May and we did that. We were then asked to send it to Liverpool yesterday on 25th May and we have done that. Contacted our MP but MP has said this will not be processed since it is not in the 6 week window. I was in tears reading that email from MP.
I feel I should just go to my local passport office in London and plead. Any suggestions?May 26, 2022 at 1:45 pm #16317hannahgParticipantHello. I’m in a similar situation as i’m currently under the 6 week window, but am now needing to fly for business critical reasons. Unsure whether I should just go to the newport depot which is my local depot to get this sorted!
