I’ve applied for a new passport for my 2nd child and renewal for my 1st child. I’ve done this online. I provided the details of both to be counter signing to two different people and they keep coming up as “looks like somethings gone wrong”. I’ve logged back into my account for both applications and tired to resend or print hard copy and I also get the same msg.
I contacted the passport office everyday that week and eventually been received a call back 10days later. They told me to send docs in and a covering letter. I then called back few days later and they said to send in a post office form only complete section 10 and counter sign two photos which i did. Now the application status is gone to “your application is currently being processed”. I’m now worried I will not receive the passports before we travel 06/05/22.
FYI when I started the application it was around 10weeks prior to travel.Application being processed 11:49am on 17 March 2022

Application submitted: 26 January
Documents received: 4 February
Application processing: 15 February
Application approved: 13 March
Passport printed: 18 March
Passport received: 21 March (no tracking received)Now I just wait for the return of documents. Stressful but glad it’s done!
March 21, 2022 at 1:27 pm #10231LLMummaParticipantHi, did you get an update on your documents being received? My daughter’s birth certificate has been sitting in Peterborough since the 4th of March and has still not been scanned into their system. I am getting increasingly anxious that we will run out of time to receive her passport for our family holiday.
March 21, 2022 at 1:29 pm #10232amirun87ParticipantLLMUMMA – yes we did the next day actually. I wasn’t expecting it to be so soon. Maybe that will be it and nothing will happen now for a few weeks.
My husband on the other hand sent befor us on 11th and still no news.
What does it say on RM tracking?
March 21, 2022 at 2:02 pm #10241ndl.alex0608ParticipantHi,
I’m on the exact same timeline as you so far I think. Mine’s a renewal for a name change, I posted all documents on the 3rd March, it was delivered on the 4th and has been sitting there for over two weeks now just like yours but still hasn’t shown up on the tracking yet. Have you tried calling them up and been told anything helpful? AlexMarch 21, 2022 at 2:06 pm #10242LLMummaParticipantHi,
Hi,
That’s is the same timeline. It’s very frustrating. However,I spoke to a lovely representative who advised that they have an exceptionally high volume of documents being received at the moment and that their usual approx 8 working days to scan documents into the system, is now approx 14 working days.
Not ideal, but hopefully this will be the slowest part of the process. I’ve been told to call back if no update by Wednesday.
I will update my progress if and when I get any 🙂March 21, 2022 at 3:17 pm #10258lisam1988ParticipantTimescales for my application have been as follows:
7 days for documents to be marked as received from the date of delivery to Passport Office
22 days for documents to be marked as processing
15 days and counting in processing.I submitted my application on 3rd February when the average wait time was three weeks. Wish the website was more transparent as if I’d known it was likely to take this long I would have paid the extra for the fast track application.
March 21, 2022 at 8:33 pm #10317Keeper83ParticipantWe applied 13th January for a passport renewal with a change of name as my husband added 2 middle names to his name via Deed Poll.
We sent the required documents:
-Deed Poll Certificate
-Driving LicenceA week later we received a generic email that said send us your documents even though they had already been received.
I made lots of calls and complaints over the following 7 weeks and we had to cancel a trip. I got sent around the system, spent 90 mins at a time waiting for processing teams to answer (it often takes this long for someone to pick up)
No one could ever give me a definitive answer about why it was taking so long, some promised me it was being processed, others told me it was awaiting printing but none of it was correct. Someone told me the generic email was sent to request extra documents but then agreed we had sent the correct ones. Another advisor put us into an urgent system but this didn’t improve matters. I requested that if the examiner did want extra documents he needed to ring or write to me and explain why.
9th February it was moved to application processing and stayed there until now.
I called on the 10th March to finally be told that the examiner had sent us a letter to say that the Deed Poll Certificate was not valid as it only had a signature in husband’s old name and it needed old and new and that driving licence was not valid as his name was so long it had cut off half of one of his middle names.
We finally received the letter which fortunately contained an address label for sending new docs direct to the examiner.
We had to pay a solicitor £180 for a new deed poll certificate with 2 signatures and sent 8 other pieces of evidence (us being pedantic to make sure it was approved) posted these on 17th March and today on 21st it has finally been approved at almost 10 weeks processing.
If the examiner had explained in the first place what the issue was rather than sending generic emails then I’m sure it would be processed sooner.
The guidance given at application does not state that the certificate needs 2 signatures. My advice is to check the document guidance handbook for examiners that you can find on the government assets website prior to sending your documents to make sure you tick their boxes.

Literally within the hour of my call to them. So that took just over 2 weeks (from physically receiving the documents on the 4th) for them to acknowledge. Maybe yours will hopefully get updated soon too if it hasn’t already. And yes, like you, I hope that was the slowest part of the process.
March 23, 2022 at 9:25 am #10457MrsPassportParticipantDoes anyone know how long it takes for them to post after approval? From what I’ve seen online they normally post soon after approval but it’s coming up to a week since approval and nothing. Otherwise, the timeline has not been the worst if it helps anyone to see…

Mine took 9 days, others are seeing 4-6 days – seems to be a bit of a lottery at the moment.
March 23, 2022 at 10:25 am #10467lisam1988ParticipantI am going to try phoning today – it’s been seven weeks since I applied and 4 weeks since I had a phone call from HMPO (they needed to check something regarding my application). I was told at the end of the call that my application was now processing and wouldn’t be much longer. It then took another two weeks for it to actually be marked as processing and it’s still processing.
Need the passport for a Background check to work abroad and to be accepted by the company that is sponsoring my visa. These delays are putting the full thing at risk. Frustrated, anxious, angry.
March 24, 2022 at 10:54 am #10568dottiebessParticipantThis is me so far – highs and lows – and now in a hold just waiting for tnt to update so i can stop being so anxious! I spoke to them today (standard 1hr.11 mins to get through for info) and was told it would be 7 working days arfte approval for it to be delivered (this is the guide not guarantee) – i said when will tracking update and was told when tnt collect it – so for me i was approved 17/3 (a week today) so should receive monday / tuesday next week. I will be delighted if that is the case but just cant relax without any tracking to know its happening.
