pkenny12, you still have a bit of time (doesn’t help the stress I know). Fingers-crossed ours comes before we travel first thing 8th April.
Goodluck!
March 30, 2022 at 1:18 pm in reply to: Government petition to improve passport application process #11254bbmiltParticipantI was always polite to the call handlers. Made sure not to take out my frustrations on them. I know it’s not their fault. It’s the system’s. Besides I think showing politeness with a touch of anxiety may have helped move my application to approved! Always pays to remain calm. People more likely to help you.

March 30, 2022 at 12:40 pm in reply to: Government petition to improve passport application process #11245bbmiltParticipantI’d definitely sign. Here’s my story. Why did my son’s child passport renewal application require his birth certificate to be sent in? Our details and circumstances have not changed. There was no clear explaination and it further delayed our application. When I rang I was first asked if I have parental responsibility!! I am his mother!! We all have the same family name. We should have been an uncomplicated application. The next time I rang they asked if I had ever held a British passport. That is irrelevant. I have been a permanent resident for over 5 years (partner is British) and I have lived in the UK since 2008 (don’t get me started with the Home Office grrr). None of this should matter for a renewal. We clearly passed all those checks when we applied for my son’s first passport. I completely understand why these checks need to be done then, eligibility etc. but not for a renewal. This is the first time I have done the application online. Never had these problems with my daughter and via paper applications. Did the ‘computer say ‘no’?’ As for all the delays and also delivery debarcle, disgraceful. Also why are some families with multiple applications finding inconsistent handling of their applications? Some go through fine but other child’s application delayed? Makes no sense. Totally broken system.

bbmiltParticipantDefinately stressful!! So weird and frustrating that people have different experiences even in the same family! I’ve had friends renew their kid’s passports submitted after me and passport delivered before we were even approved!!
We just received notification of my son’s passport printed today after submitting application 17th Feb.
HMPO requested we send in his birth certificate on 7th March even though it was just for a renewal and that delayed everything. HMPO signed for the birth certificate on the 8th March (seen on Royal Mail website).
We never received notification that they received the birth certificate on the tracker. I rang twice chasing the application and finally it was approved on 25th March. Still need it delivered before we leave first thing 8th April. Final hurdle, down to the wire. Here is my timeline:

Application submitted 3:09pm on 17 February 2022bbmiltParticipantWe’ve had an update today. Application approved!!
One hurdle down, now just need to get through printing and delivery. Two more big hurdles. Not in the clear yet for our trip on 8/4 but it’s something. Never did get another offical ‘documents received’ update for the birth certificate (Which HMPO signed for on the 8/3).Application approved 3:06pm on 25 March 2022

bbmiltParticipantrrrr I know! What I just can’t get my head around is we had less trouble applying for his first passport. I understand for a first passport thorough checks required for parental responsibility and/or eligibility but if that is cleared as okay, and there has been no circumstances changed, why the hassle now?!! So frustrating!
Our birth certificate still hasn’t been registered as being received and it has been more than 2 weeks now. When I rang yesterday I quoted the tracking number to prove they have received it!- This reply was modified 2 years, 9 months ago by bbmilt.
bbmiltParticipantWhat is with all these unnecessary requests for birth certificates when it should be straightforward! I’ve heard a few cases like this now. Seems these are just ridiculous additional requests that end up delaying things even further! So stressful! I rang again today and finally seem to speak to someone who seems like they will help, taking note of our intended travel date. Fingerscrossed. Are you travelling soon? Wishing you luck!!
bbmiltParticipantWhen I called the first time to investigate they asked whether I have parental responsibility (his mother)! I guess the birth certificate request was to confirm this. So annoyed that this is being delayed by some ridiculous additional requests confirming my parental responsibility, even though this is a simple renewal with no issues before and no change in circumstances. Feels like stalling tactics! Hope you have better luck! We are due to depart on 8th too. Fingers crossed.

bbmiltParticipantThings are getting stressful. Application for a child passport renewal submitted 17th Feb. I had imagined our application would be straightforward but on the 7th March I received a request for my son’s birth certificate. I sent it out the same day with next day delivery and HMPO signed for it on the 8th. I still haven’t heard anything. Our application tracker is stuck on old passport received 1st March. I rang HMPO on 21st March and they said to keep waiting. We still haven’t had approval of our application let alone entered into the TNT delivery debarcle (Which I had no idea about!). Time is running out for our Easter trip.
Why would they need his birth certificate for a renewal!? Our family have the same surname and I checked the details before submitting. I hate not knowing what is happening.
