    Complete lottery and farce!

I have to agree – I don’t understand why they don’t distribute the work to applicants ‘local office’ at time of application, for example Peterborough office isn’t far from me and I had to send my documents to Liverpool. Surely the online application can look at the post code and shuffle the applications out accordingly instead of as it seems is happening having the majority of documents go to one office, creating issues all round – but it’s Government offices, they don’t do common sense!

Also there is no excuse for them giving poor information – everything they do is governed by a series of guides which tells them how to deal with everything (you can google for them). Information coming out of HMPO should be correct and accurate first time.

they do work weekends as my passport was approved on a Saturday

a secret location to be printed

Apparently central print is in Durham, a facility operated by Thales.

It seems there are delays creeping into printing now – up to a week for printing and up to 5 days for delivery – potentially adding in effect two weeks to applications – something to bear in mind. Due to demand increasing apparently.

I just got off the phone to them now – they said they are really busy and so printing is now taking up to 1 week! They said delivery should be 5 days after printing but could come sooner. So hopefully it won’t be too much longer for either of us – will let you know once mine is printed

So I thought I would call them so we could compare what we are told – apparently mine was printed on the 13th – and I should try TNT tracking – so I suspect the truth is printing is taking longer, scanning into the TNT system is taking longer – I suppose the scan than that puts it into the TNT system is the one that triggers the sent update – so time will tell – I’ll update as well as I find out more.

Mine was approved on the 12th but still on approved too! Going to try and call them for an update as I have heard that passports should be printed 1 working day after approval

Yes looking in these forums it seems to be anything from 1-4 days, so I’m starting to wonder why it’s ticked into day 5 for me, 6 for you – I would be interested in any updates from them if you do call.

How long have folk normally waited from approved to print? From whatbI gathered it was usually a few days

From what I can see from timings on the forum it’s printed by the 3rd day after approval – which was today for me, but it’s still on approved – so I can only assume the delays due to demand are starting to creep into printing and sending now – hopefully mine will print and send tomorrow now.

My application was approved on Sunday so was expecting it to have been printed and sent by today – but nothing so far – maybe the delays elsewhere are starting to impact printing and dispatch – must be down to post COVID demand I can only assume.

    Urgent worked.

    Just got update- Documents received!

Good news finally! There are two routes now for the next update – one is straight to approved, and the other is processing, which appears to be another weeks long wait – so fingers crossed you’ll go down the approved route.

Based on my experience I would recommend having and professional passport photo done to avoid application moving over to a manual system.

Very good advice for peace of mind – my local Kodak photoshop did mine, a person takes the photo and I walked away with 4 prints and a code for the online application for £10.95, only a couple of quid more than the self service booths – and a guarantee that if it’s reject they will do it again for free.

I finally have my passport! Really pleased but so frustrated by the whole thing. I will let you know how I get on with my complaint. Good luck everyone.

What a relief!! Good luck with the complaint

All correctly completed applications are being processed within the timescales of the service you applied for, which is approximately 10 weeks for a renewal application.

On their website the current time for a renewal is 5 weeks – with the ‘please allow 10 weeks’ comment on the page too – so hopefully the 10 week is their ‘cover themselves’ limit and the actual processing times on the site are nearer the length of time it’s taking. They can do it – mine took 20 days from application online to approved, and this is for a 1st passport and there was an interview in that process too – just waiting for the on the way update now – so don’t lose hope it probably won’t be 10 weeks – fingers crossed.
