Last resort is to send a letter to the local MP in the hope that might trigger something to move
Frustrated_1 – I’ve just had a 4 month battle with the DVLA to get a licence issued – complete farce of me sending documents, they sending them back only to request them again etc etc. My local MP Matt Hancock was on a bit of a rehabilitation mission locally so I took advantage of that and I contacted him – he did intervene and within 2 weeks I got the licence, after being told my returned documents would go back into the 10 week long processing queue, putting the issue of the licence to Mid April – so give it a go, certainly seemed to work in my case with the DVLA.
djbdaneParticipantIt was apparently printed and sent last Wednesday. I find it hard to believe it’s taken 6 whole days to get here but there we go!
Fingers crossed for today lauraf1991!
djbdaneParticipantApologies for the rant but actually raging 😡
No need to apologise it must be infuriating stuck in the processing limbo when other applications, after yours, according to this forum are being approved – especially when there doesn’t seem to be any reason why some are quick and some are delayed – good luck getting yours sorted.
djbdaneParticipantDJbdane – sorry I meant special delivery because I have the signature too to show it was signed for on Feb 25th.
Mine were only delivered a couple of days before yours and my application was approved yesterday, waiting for the sent update- so has there been such a massive influx of documents in those two days after mine were delivered to make processing them in a timely manner impossible? I doubt it – so maybe it is just luck of the draw? Either way it’s bizarre some people are waiting weeks while others aren’t.
djbdaneParticipantI rang on Thursday and they said they have bulk loads of bags and there doesn’t seem to be an order they open them in.
I sent my docs by Special Delivery and I have seen a signature for it on the tracking – so probably better than just the RM tracked as they do have to sign for it – but it still took 11 calendar days from when I knew they were delivered to being marked as delivered on the tracking.
djbdaneParticipantIt’s clear there are two routes through the application process
1. Documents received goes straight to approved as in my case
2. Documents received goes to processingSo I wonder what the criteria is for which route your application takes? So I did a quick google.
Reading some of the guides to the process for staff (they are available online) it shows that there is a digital and a manual route – anything that drops the application out of the digital (assuming mainly automatic verification etc) route will lead to examiners getting involved – I assume this is the processing route. Asking for a call back, according to their guide (google How to record decisions, case notes and passport notes) drops the application from the ‘digital’ route – so maybe chasing your application up and requesting a call back actually slows it down even further?
Of course this is just an interpretation of these guides and obviously actual process may be different internally, but they give you an idea.
There are lots of these guides for staff online – they all start with the url assets (dot) publishing (dot) service

djbdaneParticipant@ Crazy8
You stated in your original post detailing your timeline it was a first adult application – first applications have to have an interview I was just wondering what the timescale was after it – but clearly if you haven’t had one my question is moot – thanks for replying though.djbdaneParticipantdjbdaneParticipantCrazy8
This is interesting as my application went in on the 21st – I have my virtual interview Sunday – so a quick question how long after interview was your application approved. I am hoping approval next week?- This reply was modified 2 years, 8 months ago by djbdane.
djbdaneParticipantUpdate on mine
1st PassportApplication made 21 Feb
Doc Received 5 MatchJust had an email to make the appointment for the interview so at least it’s progressing.
Interview appointment line seems constantly engaged at the moment – any tips on best time to call it?djbdaneParticipantWhat a complete nightmare Liverpool seems to be – I’m currently in the documents received stage awaiting the next update – 15 days into the process. I am at a loss as to why my application went to Liverpool, as I live quite near Peterborough and if Liverpool have issues you have to wonder why new applications / renewals are still being allocated to that office – but Government depts obviously don’t apply common sense!!
I can only assume there is huge demand as restrictions are eased and foreign travel becomes available again.
Luckily for me I don’t have any deadlines for travel to get the passport by mainly because I’ve just completed a over 4 month application process with the DVLA and I assumed if the Passport office is in the same state of turmoil anything can happen so not risk setting travel deadlines! DVLA were sending back documents then requesting them again, each time entering the 6-10 week for just post to be dealt with!
I really hope you guys with the deadlines approaching get things sorted sooner rather than later.
