    So do you have a reference number now to track it? What’s the status of the application? No contact other than status updates is normal.
    To be honest it’s not worth getting in to a state about this – I get the impression things are moving a bit quicker at the offices now than previously so hopefully you’ve allowed plenty of time and it will all be fine.
    The fact you have photo driving licence already may work in your favour as it will help them verify your identity.
    As it’s your first application you’ll need an interview, mine was done online but I am not sure how they are doing them at present. The interview is nothing to worry about, just simple questions. But when you get the notification to book the interview make sure you don’t waste a time getting it booked – the interview literally could be the last step before your application is approved – mine was approved 1 hour after the interview.
    Another thing to be wary of is actually contacting them – there are two routes through the application process digital and manual – digital is quickest, manual isn’t! Asking for a call back about your application may be enough to drag your application from digital to manual – so only contact them if it becomes urgent and good luck!

    There are two routes
    Docs received -> approved
    and
    Docs received -> processing

    when the update is processing then your application has dropped out of the digital processing route into the manual route – then I am afraid you’re in for a wait. But be careful simply requesting a call back about your application is apparently enough to drop it from the digital path.

    My son has his video interview next week on 11th may. Can anyone advise us on how long it takes to recieve passport after the interview? Thanks,! 😊

    I had my video interview on the 13th March, the application was approved about an hour after the interview and I received the passport on the 22nd March.

    i sent my son passport to bootle on 4/4/2022 by royal mail,next day delivery.it should have been delivered 5/4/2022, still showing ready for delivery. i made a claim as lost on 13/4/2022, still waiting for result.

    If you used one of the Royal Mail tracked services, tracked 24 or 48, I’ve found that when these services are used to deliver to large organisations then quite often the final update doesn’t seem to happen, I assume they get put into mail bags and the final delivered scan doesn’t happen – Even though it’s more expensive the service to use to send to HMPO is special delivery – these do get the signature and a delivered update. I am sure it’s not lost – just hasn’t been scanned when delivered.

    Appreciate al feedback – even if it’s bad

    The key update to look out for is after the documents received one. This can go one of two ways – directly to approved or it will show as processing. If the update goes to processing your application has dropped out of the digital processing route and is now on the manual route, and will take considerably longer to process. Given your travel date is in July I am sure you’ll be fine but as they are under huge pressure at the moment so you never know.

    As it’s a first passport you will need an interview as well – make sure you book your date as quick as you can when notified – days lost there will be days delayed.

    And yet there would probably be the need for an interview – it’s nothing to worry about – very simple questions (speaking from experience) – in my case I had a passport back in the 80’s but because this had expired and was no longer in my possession I had to apply for my first passport even though I had one before – this was due to the time that had lapsed.

    When the child is over 16 they have to apply for their 1st adult passport – the fact they’ve had previous child passports is irrelevant – essentially they are different documents adult passports have a 10 year validity child’s only 5.

    I think at this stage it’s anyone’s guess – hopefully they are working hard to knock down the back log – but I suspect it’s a case of it will happen when it happens I am afraid. You’re right about the digital route and the updates around that so be aware requesting a call back can be enough to knock your application off the digital route.

    I had no interview so it’s not true that all first passport application s need an interview

    Not necessarily correct – you had recently gone through the naturalisation process which I assume during which you were interviewed? That is why you didn’t get a passport interview as your identity had been sufficiently proven by the other process.

    Mine was approved on the 13th March, printed update was on the 21st March and it was delivered on the 22nd March if that helps – it’s got busier since then so potentially longer now

    is this indicative of a problem?

    Nope it simply means the application has dropped from the digital route into the manual process route – as things stand it’s will be like this for a few weeks given the backlog.

    Any application for a first British passport requires there is an interview. It’s nothing to worry about, it’s not a light in the face style interrogation! Just simple questions about where you live, your parents, work etc etc – also sometimes they ask you to describe the route you would take to get from your house to your local shop for instance – things you’ll easily know but someone pretending to be you wouldn’t.

    I would imagine any damage on the main details page makes the passport invalid as the authorities would see it as potential tampering with the most important page in the document. So you risk travelling with it or throw yourself at the mercy of HMPO – their website says you have to cancel lost or stolen passports so it would be a straight forward renewal – maybe try and give them a call to see what their advice is the sooner the better as it looks like you’re very short on time even before you start the process.

    You do read in these posts about applications being transferred around the offices – so it would seem they can reference applications from any office – which would make sense. So in a perfect world maybe it doesn’t matter where the documents get sent to and the different offices spread the work load, you would imagine the process of simply scanning them on to the system would update the application – but of course this is a Government dept so common sense may not apply! Maybe a quick phone call to them to maybe put your mind at rest – then as you say sit back and wait for them to be processed.
