djbdaneParticipant
This was from Hemel Hempstead.
The majority of passports are printed a ‘central print’ in Durham at a facility operated by Thales and not at the respective offices, approved applications are transferred electronically to the printing facility.
djbdaneParticipantJust had EMail to say our passports application has been approved (Liverpool) How long does it take to be printed and posted?
It took 10 days for me including day of approval and the day I had the passport in my hand.
djbdaneParticipantMine was printed on the 23rd and still waiting for tracking details.
You are checking on the TNT aren’t you? They don’t send any tracking details to you. Fingers crossed it updates soon.
djbdaneParticipantAmy93 great news on it being printed – hopefully TNT get their act in gear now too
djbdaneParticipant1) All applications go to an examiner after multiple automatic checks – i have a couple on my photo but the phone bloke doesn’t see a problem (one I have aged in 10 years!!)
2) No one goes straight to approved in a few days – examiners sign everything off
As far as I understand there is a process called the Digital Application Process, or DAP as they refer to it in their guides available online – all checks can be completed digitally and these go from docs received to approved without a processing status update. OK someone may press a button to approve it but the whole process is automated as far as I can tell. Mine was on the DAP route and went from docs received to approved in just over a week. It’s when the is a query on the application it drops into the manual processing route, where examiners get hands on – even requesting a call back can drop the application from the DAP route. So examiners signing off may be what happens but it may just be as simple as all the DAP checks coming back green and the examiner clicks OK.
This is born out by people who are on the processing route wait weeks for approval update, people who don’t get the processing update and go straight to approved don’t wait weeks – as in my case.
djbdaneParticipantAmazing for all the people receiving passports but sadly most of these seem to be those that don’t disappear into the black hole known as “manual checking” ours been in there for 3 weeks and counting and despite calling every day still not even been looked at 😡
You’re exactly right – there are two routes through the system
Docs received goes to approved – this is the digital route
Docs received goes to processing – this is the manual route
As far as I can tell all applications start on digital route but then drop into the manual route if the process for some reason can’t be completed digitally.djbdaneParticipantMy passport was approved on 18/03/2022 at 14:30. Im wondering if anyone has or hasnt had there passport printed yet around this date and time. Desperately trying to work out where I am in the cue. Scheduled to fly on 27/03/2021 so worried this is too little too late anyway. Originally applied on 07/02/2021 and they asked for no additional documents. approved on 18/03/2021. Has been a painful process to say the least.
There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to the order they process things. Your next update will be printed, this I believe is when TNT actually collect it – and in my case delivery was the next day after the printed update – however, it took 10 days to go from approved to the passport in my hand, including the approved and delivered dates. From my experience I think maybe it’s not going to come in time – but you never know – good luck!
djbdaneParticipantApparently the Passport Office are sure it has already been printed. I’ve put the info in TNTs tracker but still showing an error message that nothing can be found.
If I’m honest, I think I’ve given up on it turning up in time. Thank god its only once every 10 years we have to go through this eh?
Observations based on my experience.
TNT collecting the passport triggers the printed update I believe – it’s pointless checking TNT until you have the printed update – it will then (hopefully) show up in the TNT tracking later that day. It originally showed a delivery date two days in advance, which I believe is the default until it progresses through their system, later that evening the delivery data changed to next day and indeed it was delivered the next day.
From approval to the passport in my hand took 10 days, including the day of approval and delivery. From what I can gather the delay now is TNT collecting them.djbdaneParticipantDjbdane – I have just looked and it is now showing as delivery tomorrow!!
Excellent!!
djbdaneParticipantI have also received a printed update today with a delivery date for Friday 25th March. How accurate are their delivery dates? We fly next Wednesday and I’m so worried!
I would imagine you’ll be fine – the delivery dates seem solid at the moment from what I can see on the forum from other posts.
djbdaneParticipant) but I’m a bit worried that it will mess it up :S
When mine first tracked it said the 23rd, later in the evening it went to the 22nd as it progressed through the system and indeed was delivered yesterday. I really wouldn’t tempt fate by tweaking it!! It’s only a day.
djbdaneParticipantDoes anyone know how long it takes for them to post after approval?
Mine took 9 days, others are seeing 4-6 days – seems to be a bit of a lottery at the moment.
djbdaneParticipant@poooo Did you get any kind of tracking notification or did it just turn up? On the same time lines as you. And definitely fast track next time.
I didn’t get any tracking notification – once it’s printed follow the link on the HMPO tracking page to TNT – enter, then go to the tracking page, you can track with your PEX number and postcode – if there is tracking you’ll be shown another screen with in effect a big button on it – click that for the delivery details – it does seem you have to do it yourself.
djbdaneParticipantNow on day 4 of waiting for an update on that.
Took 9 days for mine to be printed, however it was delivered and in my hand the next day.
djbdaneParticipantCustomers expect transparency and clarity – something clearly lacking here.
Exactly – the up in the air time frames are not acceptable. If it’s going to take ten weeks then the website should say it will take 10 weeks, not ‘allow up to’ – be honest with people about timescales, so people can make informed decisions – and if demand is overwhelming the processing (and potentially again as COVID cases seem to be increasing staff illness may be an issue) then tell people – if we know we can deal with it!
