Standard adult renewal, sent old passport to Durham but transferred to Liverpool for reasons unknown:
Application Approved – 20:17 11 June 2020
Application being processes – 10:12 26 May 2020
Documents Received – 08:48 22 May 2020
Application Received – 15:08 18 May 2020
Application Submitted – 15:07 18 May 2020Quite impressed with the turnaround especially since they transferred my application to Liverpool, for which I’ve only seen bad reviews.
essex2020ParticipantIt appears that HMPO are moving applications around… I sent my old passport for a renewal application to Durham, have now had a message back from HMPO on Twitter informing me that my application has been transferred to Liverpool (and I’m not hearing such good things about the Liverpool office either).
It’s interesting because I also sent a renewal application to Durham for my elderly aunt, and her application was approved seconds after they received the old passport.
It baffles me why applications aren’t just held at one office.
It’s not particularly urgent for me, I have no travel booked and the renewal was more because my last passport photo was from when I was 16 and I am now 23 and look nothing like that and was questioned on my identity at Australian customs last time I travelled.
essex2020Participant@CaboG , you could probably get the Emergency Travel Document at the High Commission in Ottawa or any of the consulates across Canada, and then call HMPO to have them change the delivery of your passport to you address in Mexico (I’m guessing Cabo, which is an amazing place).
essex2020ParticipantThe inconsistencies could probably be found out through a Freedom of Information request… I genuinely feel as if there has been a clerical error in my case though, it just makes no sense whatsoever.
essex2020Participant@rjo , I completely agree, the inconsistencies even within the same office are staggering… but their excuse will only be that these are unprecedented times and everything is up in the air in terms of processing times. As I said, I fear there’s been a mistake in my case because it just doesn’t sit right with me!

essex2020Participant@gingerling yeah it’s completely strange! Annoyingly it’s not my own passport!
Fingers crossed they’ll get it processed soon, what office did you send yours to?
essex2020ParticipantVery odd processing time from the Durham office as of this morning (but very impressed!). This is for an adult renewal:
Application Approved: 10:49 28 May 2020
Documents Received: 10:49 28 May 2020
Application Received: 15:59 21 May 2020
Application Submitted: 15:59 21 May 2020The note above it says that the passport is about to be printed. This definitely isn’t a usual timeline based on what I’ve seen on this forum. I have noticed that there was no “processing” step here, and I’m not convinced some overworked civil servant hasn’t pressed a wrong button.
Interesting because I submitted another application to Durham on 18 May and am now on the “application being processed” step (another adult renewal).
For now, I’m going to assume that they’ve just turned it around really quickly!
