Yes, the randomness is frustrating. There’s really no point in us posting our timelines, as there’s no ‘system’ to follow and have some expectations based on the past performance.

It seems I might be the only one left without ‘documents received’ in the usual timeframe…

HI JMS, I think I am on a similar boat as yours.
My documents were sent on 24th Feb via RM special delivery, however RM tracking doesn’t show it’s been delivered or signed. Last time it was scanned, the parcel was at Warrington Mail Center.
Ever since, I am calling both RM and Passport office! RM says, they have delivered the documents but they couldn’t scanned individual item as they were delivered in bulk sack. And Passport office said, they haven’t recieved the document as it’s not showing in RM tracker!
It’s all MESS!!
Slightly different, as they have signed for my Special Delivery on the 28th (also went via the Warrington).
But, I agree, it is a mess.
OK, phoned them this morning (answered in about 5-6 minutes), but they couldn’t tell me where my docs are or why they haven’t scanned them. Said it has been only (sic!) two weeks and that I should leave it for another before calling back if not scanned by then. That they are having delays.
Also, asked me to call back with RM tracking number (didn’t have it on me) and they will add it to the notes – not entirely sure what this accomplishes.
OK, I think I’m being trolled by the HMPO.
This morning they’ve sent me an email and text to remind me to send documents!
Tomorrow will be two full weeks since someone signed for them there.
ust read they count the time for processing passports from the day they start to process the application and not from when you submit or documents are recieved.
That’s crazy – what’s the point of the “times” on the gov website when they can leave them “not received” for as long as they want/need and still claim it was done within the time frame.
How difficult is to process a renewal of the adult passport – you see the old one, no details have changed, look at the photo (yes, it’s the same guy, even if the last 10 years weren’t kindest to him) and click “print”.
Right now, I’d be happy even if they would just acknowledge that they’ve received my old passport/application…

I don’t know how you count working days, but I count from the day after they were signed for, which would make this your 8th working day.
Counting the same way, now the 8th day is gone, so not 6-7. Plus they had the whole (working) day after RM delivered it.
To some extent I can understand the time needed to check/process first passport applications, but surely renewals should be quick and easy. Especially, if nothing other than photo has changed.
When you renew the driving license, only need to confirm all your details online, it even grabs passport photo and you get it in the post few days later (and only then you send the old one back cut/cancelled).
Sounds like they are trying to clear the backlog, as I’ve noticed a few people now say documents were in logged 6-7 working days after Royal Mail delivered them. Fingers crossed.
That would be good, but not happening in my case: Special Delivery was signed as received on 28/02 before 9am – still not showing as received on the tracking.
