Ugh! Bad news for me.
So just want to remind everyone about their COVID passports!
My friend got her passport yesterday morning, she picked it up from Peterborough and came straight to Birmingham airport to meet us. We were due to fly out at 2.15pm.
After being in the check in line for an hour and a half, as they didn’t open check in for our flight until 12.30pm, we were asked for our COVID passports. Me and 2 other friends showed ours but my friend who only picked her passport up that morning, had forgotten all about the COVID one due to all of the stress for her normal passport.
She tried logging onto the NHS app to download a PDF copy, but it wanted her to prove her identity with a photo of her passport and would take up to 24 hours to verify. You couldn’t even make this up!
The woman at checkout said the only other option was to run upstairs and get a rapid test, so we run upstairs and they said because she had to book the test online, pay for it then go through all the info and wait for the results etc, they wouldn’t get it done in time. So unfortunately she couldn’t go.I wasn’t going to leave her on her own so I sent my other 2 friends off and I stayed with her, so we’ve missed our holiday. We tried looking for different flights but it was too expensive and cost more than what the actual holiday cost! So yeah, we missed out.
So please remember your COVID passports! You can download the NHS app and download a PDF copy of it or have it sent straight away to your email.
I truly believe if she didn’t have this stress of her normal passport, she would have remembered to get her COVID passport sorted sooner. But, it is what it is. Gutted, but I wouldn’t have forgiven myself if I just left her stranded at airport after all the stress she went through to get her actual passport.
We’ve booked another holiday for May next year, and we both have a week off work, so, silver linings and all that.
JodieLianneParticipantThey called my friend at 5.05pm for the interview! Talk abut cutting it fine!!
She can collect her passport at 8am in the morning then she’s getting dropped off at airport and meeting us there.
Can’t tell you what a relief this is!
But honestly, she first applied back in November, then they messed up her application so she had to apply again on 14th Feb and she literally picks her passport up on the morning of the flight!
What an absolute shambles!?
I’ve said if she gets there in morning and their printer isn’t working, then I’m not going either because that’s one bad omen! lolI just want to thank everyone for your advice on this forum as we wouldn’t have known what to do otherwise!
Good luck to everyone still waiting, I really hope you manage to get your passports in time <3
JodieLianneParticipantNot looking good for my friend.
She got to Peterborough. The man she saw was lovely and tried his best to help. But they have nobody at Peterborough that could do an emergency interview so he emailed the team that are doing interviews and he’s not had a response. He said they interview until 5pm and if she manages to have an interview by then, they can approve it straight away and he would personally print her passport first thing in morning as he’s there from 6am. But it’s now nearly 5pm and still nothing 🙁
So she’s just left Peterborough in tears. The man was really apologetic and he said himself that it’s ridiculous. So it’s not looking good at all!
We fly out tomorrow, so she’s already set her mind and knows she won’t be going unless a miracle happens 🙁
JodieLianneParticipantUpdate on my friend.
Travelling tomorrow.
She got a call yesterday morning from the upgrade team and said as it’s her very 1st passport she’ll need an interview on teams. They said she’d get it by 3.30pm yesterday or 11.30am the latest today in order for her to pick her passport up at 3.30pm today.
She didn’t get the call or an email with teams link.
She’s travelling a 2-hour trip to Peterborough now to see if they can help.
Not looking hopeful 🙁 But keeping everything crossed!JodieLianneParticipantWe fly out Thursday 26th May, so in 2 days. My friend requested an upgrade almost 2 weeks ago. She got an email a week ago confirming the receipt of an upgrade.
She got a call this morning at 11.30am saying she can pick her passport up at 3.30pm tomorrow at Peterborough but she has to have an interview first as it’s her 1st ever passport. They said she should get another call and an email with teams invite link for her interview, within 4 hours but they can’t guarantee that and it could be in morning. Very helpful :/
The 4 hours expired almost 2 hours ago and she’s not heard anything yet. So we’re getting closer but still the stress of waiting! 🙁JodieLianneParticipantWe are due to fly out on Thursday 26th May. My friend still hasn’t had her passport, she applied 17th feb. She emailed all of the upgrade teams and got some emails back to say they have received her upgrade request and to not call or email as it will delay the process, so she’s not called as she’s scared they won’t do it.
Thing is though, hers is her 1st ever passport and she hasn’t even had an interview that you normally get with your 1st passport.
So what’s the likelihood of them actually processing it for her before Thursday? 🙁
JodieLianneParticipantHi. My friend sent off for her 1st passport last November. They withdrew her application as she didn’t send her mother’s full birth certificate in time. Bearing in mind they let her know 10 weeks later and she got no phone call from them. So they told her to reapply and to put a cover note in to say her own birth certificate was at Peterborough due to a previous application. So she did just that and they received her application on 17th February.
Her application is at Durham and they keep telling her they were waiting for Peterborough to send over her birth certificate. Peterborough were given a deadline and the deadline came and went. So 2 weeks ago my friend is now panicking and called and called them, to be told that they are still waiting for her birth certificate but they had upgraded her application to priority. So I told her to go buy another birth certificate and send it to Durham next day delivery which she did and she put on the envelope *Urgent Correspondence*
Durham received it at 9am on Wednesday 4th May. When she called a few days later they said it takes them 3 weeks to go through the post and get it on their system! So she told them it was urgent and that she had previously been told they upgraded her application to priority. But they were not helpful and as usual said that someone would call her back.
Then she called on Thursday and explained she flies out in 2 weeks and they transferred her to the expedite team? She went through everything on the phone, they asked if she has proof of flying and she said yes, so they said she will get a call within 48 hours. So I saw this website and have made her email all of the upgrade teams. Some have replied automatically saying they received it and the email is only for those that have been told to contact them etc, and others haven’t replied. She still has not had a call back so now I’m worried she’s not going to get it in time.
We fly out on Thursday May 26th. With this being her 1st ever passport surely she’d need an interview first? So with what people are saying, that they get a call 24-48 hours beforehand, will that include an interview for a 1st ever passport?
