Once it hits two weeks before you are due to travel phone (and if you are willing to pay for the upgrade) and ask for the service to be upgraded as you have proof you are due to travel within two weeks.
I don’t have personal experience of doing this (I had a nine-week wait for my passport) so I can’t say if it is effective or efficient but would be worth a shot.

I just keep telling the robot “speak to someone” or “complain”. The system tried to put me through to someone but then of course there was a “technical issue” and the call dropped.
I emailed their complaints but still haven’t heard back from anyone. They are not fit for purpose!
In my experience two separate “we have received your documents” messages means they have done an internal transfer of your application to another passport office. That is what happened with mine. When I applied the average time was three weeks, today is nine weeks exactly since I applied and I still don’t have my passport – it is due for delivery today.
My passport was showing in TNT tracking on 4th April, so I arranged for delivery on 5th April. TNT then changed this to 6th April. Got a text this morning saying it would be delivered between 8am and 8pm. Checked the tracker again and it’s back and the depot showing as delivered date on 7th April.
Tried to phone the dedicated passport number to speak to someone and due to a “technical issue” they couldn’t put me through to someone. Raging.
The passport tracking system is beyond slow. It really can take up to 3 weeks for the passport office to acknowledge receipt of old documents.
sboulds – in total my standard adult passport renewal took 9 weeks at a time HMPO was quoting an average of 3 weeks. Initially my passport was sent to Liverpool and then transferred to Peterborough. Though many applied after me and received theirs before me. You can get a FastTrack appointment if you register the passport at lost but I don’t have any experience with that.
I don’t think any of the passport offices have mail that goes directly to them. I think all mail is sent off site and then directed to the correct place on site.
There are several, but most passports aren’t delivered direct to the passport processing centre, most seem to be delivered to a site close by and transferred there.
Passports sent to Bootle usually end up in Liverpool.
There are offices in Liverpool, Glasgow, London, Belfast, Durham, Peterborough, Newport and maybe a few others.
Mine was approved on 1st April, printed on 4th April and due for delivery tomorrow. Mine may have been expedited as I am now 9 weeks from application date.
Mine was printed at 10:37 am on 4th April and I was able to track from the evening of the 4th April. Due for delivery from TNT tomorrow. I’m unsure if mine has been expedited a little as I am now 9 weeks since I applied for a standard adult renewal.
leachmca – mine was approved on Friday, printed on Monday, able to track through TNT on Monday evening and due for delivery tomorrow. Hopefully won’t be much longer for you!
