You can place a request on compassionate grounds for getting your passport approved faster.

passportpanic – I sent my passport for a standard adult renewal online. The photo I used was graded as ‘good’ by the online system. Another potential hold up for mine is I am applying for renewal 2.5 years early as I want to work abroad for a number of years and need the security of a ‘fresh’ passport that I don’t have to worry about expiring. I got a call from HMPO on 25th February enquiring about the early renewal but they were happy with my answer.

Rachael20030 – this is my timeline thus far:

    Application submitted: 3rd February
    Application received: 3rd February
    Documents received: 12th February
    Application processing: 7th March

So I am 23 days and counting in the processing stage, I see someone has an application approved after 24 days in processing so I am hoping (not expecting) that it will be approved soon.

I haven’t had any feedback from HMPO on my passport photo, I did get a phone call on 25th February asking for more information about my application which I provided to their satisfaction.

Moshuntilpanic – my photo was ‘good’ and I still went into a processing queue so who knows what the situation is with those going into processing and others getting straight approval.

Rachael20030 – depending on the ‘route’ your passport takes you should get the following:

Straight to approval – text to say your passport has been approved
Into the dreading processing queue – I didn’t get a text to say my passport was processing, and I am still waiting for it to be approved but I assume there will be a text when that happens.

Thanks for the info, Sjh10. I applied on 3rd February and the application started processing on 7th March so maybe my application will be approved in the next couple of days which would be a similar time scale to yours from processing to approved.

hs99 – I have spoken to someone twice and just had the exact same response both times. If there is no change from processing I will be phoning the day it enters week 9 and trying to get them to speed things along so that I get it within the 10 weeks!

As far as I am aware you need to have your passport with you when you go to the appointment.

GPopp – I had a phone call from the Liverpool office on 25th February to confirm a detail about my application and was told it was processing and wouldn’t be much longer. In the time since my passport has been sent to Peterborough and only marked as processing on 7th March and it is still processing 7.5 weeks later.

@nassao41 My application has been “processing” since 7th March, having applied on 3rd February. I think I will be lucky to get mine in their 10-week timeframe. I will be phoning again on the day of week 9 if there still hasn’t been any movement.

    @worriedgroom22

My application has been processing since 7th March after submitting my application on 3rd February. I have been told they can’t do anything to help until 10 weeks after I submitted the application – nothing about that 10 weeks starting from when the office officially receive it – if I ever get that line I will not be accepting that. HMPO website does not give timescales for them marking documents as received so my 10 weeks is starting from the day I submitted the application.

I submitted my application on 3rd February and sent my passport to HMPO on 4th February. Still waiting to receive my passport. It is currently still processing.

I am a lot stressed as not having my passport is holding up an application for a visa to work abroad next year and holding up a criminal background check required for the visa.

hs99 – when did you apply for your passport? Ten weeks for me will be 14th April. So incredibly frustrating.

I applied on 3rd February and have been processing since 7th March. I have phoned twice over the last week and it’s been waiting on an examiner both times I called.

My passport was sent to Liverpool and then transferred to Peterborough after four weeks.
I find it most frustrating that they don’t process applications in order of application date. So so frustrating seeing people who applied weeks after me getting their passport whilst mine sits in processing limbo.

I am going to try phoning today – it’s been seven weeks since I applied and 4 weeks since I had a phone call from HMPO (they needed to check something regarding my application). I was told at the end of the call that my application was now processing and wouldn’t be much longer. It then took another two weeks for it to actually be marked as processing and it’s still processing.

Need the passport for a Background check to work abroad and to be accepted by the company that is sponsoring my visa. These delays are putting the full thing at risk. Frustrated, anxious, angry.
