    Being within 48 hours doesn’t guarantee you will get sorted. Today in London they were prioritising those traveling today and tomorrow- if I hadn’t got the call from the upgrade team I would have been back there tomorrow.

    Hi Freddie,
    Initially just Liverpool, then all of them
    In desperation yesterday, my application was with Liverpool so went with them initially. Was them who called today. When i got there at 0645 there were maybe 6/8 in front of me.

    Hello everyone,
    So I rocked up to the London office this morning at 0645!! Was already a queue, got in at 8ish. By around 1200 I had been told they were prioritising people traveling today / tomorrow and I would need to come back Friday. I then spoke with a manager who said they would review, however 15 mins later I got a call from a no caller ID and lo and behold it was the upgrade team in Liverpool!! Upgrade sorted, not enough time to get from London today as the collection office closes at 1600 but I will be back in the morning to collect.
    What I would say is there is no point turning up at London office unless you are within 48 hours of travel. Also get there early.

    Oh you don’t need to apologise lol the whole passport office is shambolic so if anyone can get lucky than that is great I’ve just had enough of it now really, as I say I applied for a renewal of my 5 year old daughters passport on March 2nd, trip to Disney Paris booked for May 28th (14 weeks later) didn’t think there would be any issue as at that stage the average turnaround time was 4/6 weeks. Issue with wife’s name hi lighted mid March, her passport was also being renewed and married name changed so marriage cert was already at HMPO. Advised by customer services to send a cover letter explaining this and provided wife’s PEX number, didn’t hear anything else, no other docs requested. Wife’s one came mid/ end April. No sign of daughters. Turns out HMPO can’t link up applications so just left daughters in processing queue. After many hours on hold / in a queue / rarely talking to anyone was advised after I provided wife’s new passport number that would be fine- that was 3 weeks ago, been expecting a call I was told I would get in 2 working days from the examination Team
    For last 10 working days… made upgrade request as soon as I could (within 14 days of travel) HMPO also requested upgrade…. Still nothing. The original application still just says processing despite it being escalated for various reasons including being outside the agreed 10 week turnaround time….. nothing. So I’m hoping tomorrow I either get lucky at the London office or I get a call from the upgrade team as will be within 48 hrs of travel!! We shall see!!

    I agree you are massively fortunate to have got that sorted so quickly- the whole system is not a fair one at all, whilst i sympathise with anyone having to use HMPO at present it is blatantly not a fair system when someone who
    Only applies for a passport two weeks ago with travel in a month gets an upgrade sorted yet someone like me who applied at the beginning of March and is due to fly on Saturday still hasn’t been sorted!! I really hope I get a call tomorrow but will be at the London office for opening time anyway!! Fingers crossed for me and everyone else!!

    @kel85, what number did you use yesterday and what team managed to sort for you as I have a similar issue! Due to fly Saturday.

    With you on that Gareth, I also fly on the 28th and no sign of any call for me!! @mellyowen which upgrade team was dealing with yours?

    @doomkittycleo- when do you fly? I fly Saturday morning and still awaiting call from Liverpool upgrade team. Application been in since March 2nd, and processing for 6 weeks!!

    Hi Matt,
    Are you travelling on the 28th? (Can’t believe you left applying so late!!) My daughters application is also with the Liverpool office and has been For 2.5 months!! What communications did you have from the Liverpool upgrade team? I got an email yesterday to say they have received my request (progress team also sent a request) they had noted my date of travel was the 28th and were working through in date of travel order- if you are on the 28th this gives me cause for hope!! But did you receive any other emails before your passport showed up? If this upgrade team works it will be the only part of HMPO which is at the moment , the whole service is shambolic.
