I was super panicky due to all the articles online etc, then regretted not doing fast track immediately after posting my old passport. I requested a callback from the passport advice line (don’t try holding, callbacks are within an hour) and they said if I still hadn’t received my passport 2 weeks before my scheduled departure I could get an immediate upgrade to fast track without an interview (really handy to know!).

Also really recommend posting your old passport with signed next day delivery. Not on Friday though, it goes to a retention centre, I didn’t know what that meant so thought it was lost… turns out they just deliver on the next available day.
