This is my timeline – I had a call on Saturday from the complaints department at around 4.30pm letting me know they were sending the passport by Royal Mail special delivery – it is due to arrive this morning.
We go away on Thursday! So it was a very close call and took lots of phone calls to get here – we booked our holiday before Lockdown and my daughters passport expired in March. This was enough to get our passport expedited. If I hadn’t chased we would definitely not have had the passport in time.

You need to ring fairly often to try and escalate the claim – the reason they want you to prove you booked it before Covid is to show you haven’t just booked a last minute holiday without having your passports sorted first. It seems they will try and help you if they can, but they don’t tell you at first that it is going to be sorted as they don’t like making promises – even if it’s last minute like mine! I got a call yesterday from the complaints team saying they had sent my passport Royal Mail special delivery so it will definitely be with me in time.
NewgirlParticipantFinally!!!!!! I just have to hope it’s here for Wednesday as we travel Thursday morning!!! No idea how to track it???
I had to email in on Friday with proof of holiday being booked before Covid to get it expedited. But I did ring every day for a week and a half trying to get it escalated. Traumatic! I hope that the back logs are being cleared now and you all get your passports in time for your holidays x

NewgirlParticipantI have now spoken to customer services, DM’d the Twitter account, emailed the Liverpool HMPO office with my travel docs to show I booked before Lockdown and also emailed my MP who has emailed the Home Office on my behalf. Everyone has told me they have escalated the case but nothing has happened as yet and no-one can promise me anything either.
It’s so frustrating when others have had their renewals go through quickly with no need for chasing yet they can’t push mine through! 7 days to go before we fly… Even if it does get approved and posted tomorrow or Friday it may not get to us on time… My little girl is going to be devastated!
NewgirlParticipantSo I spoke to someone this morning and they told me they have ‘escalated’ my case. Has anyone had experience of this and what happened next?
NewgirlParticipantWhat did you say to the complaints department?
NewgirlParticipantHi
I am applying for a child renewal and due to go away next Thursday 24th July but we are stuck at processing as per below! I have DM’d on Twitter and spoken to someone on the phone but everyone keeps saying we can’t guarantee anything. I have emailed the Liverpool office (because this is the only email address I could find on these forums) today with proof that I booked the trip in February, well before Lockdown. Has anyone had any success doing this??? I am proper stressed out now!
FYI – I sent my docs to Durham but the person on the phone said the case had been passed to Peterborough
