UpsidedownParticipant
Well I don’t think it is alarmist, since my husband’s was submitted 18 Feb and son’s 22/2 and we are still waiting…4 weeks between documents being signed for and officially received, then another 4 weeks in processing, now we are being told 2-3 weeks till letter they requested which arrived last week will be dealt with. They haven’t even looked at my son’s application yet! and what’s the bet we have to go through it all again. It’s completely unacceptable.
UpsidedownParticipantTwo-three weeks?! Might be time to get an MP involved- this application was submitted over 3 months ago!
UpsidedownParticipantWe are beginning of August. Application submitted in February so we should have it back by then.
UpsidedownParticipantFortunately not till August but I do need documents back. Do you have one booked?
UpsidedownParticipantYeah it’s never ending. Have had notification that letter has arrived (from postal service not HMPO) so now to see what happens (if anything).
May 20, 2022 at 8:21 am in reply to: Overseas child’s first passport – documents mess in Durham. How can MP help? #15780UpsidedownParticipantWe have had similar issues with Durham – first adult passports applying from Australia. Husband born in UK and emigrated here as a child with his family, they wanted the document he came here on (does not exist) and had issues with his birth certificate (reissued from Scotland National Records Office 3 years ago and was previously accepted to support our daughter’s passport application). Don’t think they have got to our son’s application yet as it is dependent on his father’s birth certificate. We phoned and he was told to send the information in a letter! sent on Tuesday via Express Post. I don’t understand why this couldn’t be accepted by email or requested at the time of the initial application (which was submitted 18 February!) The whole process is incredibly frustrating.
We have no MP to call on though perhaps could get our daughter to contact her local MP on our behalf?
UpsidedownParticipantGood luck @Geeber. Friday night definitely shortest but he didn’t have to wait too long on Monday night either. Make sure you have tracking number, and the delivery time and date. We were able to see that someone called Ann had signed for ours and passed that on too.
UpsidedownParticipant@Geeber you need to phone them. We have had found shortest waiting time on hold if we call Friday night Australian Eastern Time, corresponds to early Friday afternoon there.
You should get through eventually, we had same messages and docs were received 3 working days after we called as the Processing team member we spoke to emailed Durham with all the tracking details so they could locate the documents.
UpsidedownParticipantNot unusual. Ours took 4 weeks to be uploaded. Suggest you keep calling especially if you get the email where they say they will cancel your application if they don’t receive your documents.
UpsidedownParticipantMaybe phone them, or try the web chat? We were in processing for 4 weeks and then found out they wanted extra information (posted today express). I don’t know if they are doing fast track for overseas applications but there must be something you can do.
UpsidedownParticipantI would try calling them or logging into the web chat if I were you. Do you know if you are in processing? or docs received? You might get it faster – my daughter’s application in 2019 took exactly 2 weeks from posting it in Australia to receiving the passport. Sometimes postage is fast these days too – last month I sent package to UK normal mail and it arrived in a week. The 4-6 weeks is probably the average experience of people on this forum who’ve been sent to processing.
UpsidedownParticipantFour weeks between when they were signed for at Durham office (according to Royal Mail tracking) and when they were “received”. Continued to get texts asking us to send documents even when they had them, eventually we phoned after the email which threatened to cancel the applications and documents were officially received 3 days later.
UpsidedownParticipantThat’s great news!
We have to send a letter explaining exactly what my husband told the operator re his birth certificate and arrival to Australia. Hopefully it doesn’t take them as long to receipt the letter as it did the identity forms!
UpsidedownParticipant@Angry mother that’s terrible. I actually think that my attempt to contact web chat made them look at my husband’s and got the ball rolling, so suggest you try that if you haven’t already. I still haven’t heard anything about my son’s application, submitted same date.
Husband’s email said that he needed to send additional information – they thought his birth certificate was a photocopy (possibly was but copied by Scotlands People, not us) and wanted documentation for how he arrived in country of residence as he was not in country of his birth (we are in Australia). When he finally got through to speak to somebody in the processing team and explained his situation they said he needs to put it in writing and send it. Sending that off today Express International which will still take ages! Wish they could accept an email.
UpsidedownParticipantI forgot to say we are dealing with Durham.
@tomfromaus how long since they receipted your documents? -
