UpsidedownParticipant
@swm1982 it has been there for 4 weeks. I was trying to get through on the web chat – it kept dropping out but I managed to type my query. I was in the middle of logging on for another go when my husband got the email. I’m not sure if it was coincidence or whether it was as a result of the web chat query.
UpsidedownParticipantI expected that ours went to processing because my husband’s birth certificate has to be used also for my son’s application. Husband has spoken to 2 operatives who can’t see any problems recorded on his application and everything is marked off as received and all in order. Strangely there is no record on their system of anyone sending the email that he received about his birth certificate (which has previously been successfully used for another family member’s passport). They also don’t understand why he is being asked to provide a document showing how he got here to Australia. It’s incredibly frustrating.
UpsidedownParticipant@ddjbdane yes I know that, I was seeking to find out how long others had spent in processing. As it turns out someone has started looking at our file.
UpsidedownParticipantUpdate – he got through and spoke to somebody who couldn’t understand why he’d been sent the email he had and advised him to call again on Monday or try the web chat. They said there is no record on the file that any emails have been sent to him or any additional documents needed.
UpsidedownParticipantSorry to hear your outcome @kosong.
@MaxNRG we have been at this about the same time, hopefully it has been escalated at the other end even though you weren’t able to get through.@beanwOO I think you may be right about the automatic citizenship through right of birth and it is so frustrating! We have now been asked to supply information that doesn’t exist, which they didn’t ask for initially and there’s no record of it being required in their system. It almost feels like some bureaucrat was having a bad day and felt like being difficult. I just want to get it done so we can get our documents back – I had to send our marriage certificate with our son’s application and I need that for something else so I can prove change of name.
So glad to have this forum and website!
UpsidedownParticipantThe plot thickens…when he got through they looked on the system and said there is nothing missing. They have organised a call back from the person who sent the email.
UpsidedownParticipantOMG my husband just got an email from the Passport Office asking for the impossible – when submitting the application they asked for a colour photocopy of his existing passport as well as his birth certificate – we sent off both. Now they want the passport he travelled to “his country of residence” on…um not possible, he was 5 years old and it was 50 years ago, he might possibly have been on one of his parents’ passports but I don’t think his mother would still have them this many years later (she let her own UK passport lapse). They are also complaining about the birth certificate, it is the one which he was issued by the Scottish registry because he didn’t have his original, handwritten one.
Ironically our daughter had her passport issued no problems 3 1/2 years ago with the same document in under 2 weeks.
I have advised him to phone them.

I’ve seen on here that most people stay in processing 4-6 weeks so hopefully you will hear something soon.
UpsidedownParticipant@Bonz if you look at the experiences when people have shown their complete timelines that’s what it says “identity details received”. So I would say the countersignature has passed, and hopefully you will get notification it is approved shortly and skip the dreaded “processing” stage.
UpsidedownParticipantSurely the fact that it says identity details received means they accepted your countersignatory?
UpsidedownParticipantApparently the interview is not mandatory. The passport application says you “may” be asked for an interview and there are people on here who did not get called in for one.
Agree that most people here are here because they’ve been waiting a long time. Read the experiences for a more mixed perspective.
UpsidedownParticipantA really long wait! I believe the average time is 4-6 weeks if you are unlucky enough to hit “processing”. We have been in processing since 14 April but I think the next step is an email/text saying it has been approved.
UpsidedownParticipantHi, ours are first passports, applying from Australia. They aren’t children’s passports but will give you some idea perhaps? I think you want to be looking at it over the next couple of days and crossing your fingers you don’t end up in the dreaded processing black hole like we have.
Application being processed 2:31pm on 14 April 2022
Documents received 12:21pm on 13 April 2022
Application received 5:45am on 24 February 2022
Identity details received 5:44am on 24 February 2022
Email sent to person confirming your identity 7:25am on 22 February 2022
Ask someone to confirm your identity 6:59am on 18 February 2022
Application submitted 6:59am on 18 February 2022UpsidedownParticipantHusband and son’s applications have been in processing since 14 April. Still waiting. Really frustrating especially when you read of others who have submitted since then who already have theirs back! There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason for who gets processed when. Really feel for people needing them back by a certain date for travel
May 8, 2022 at 9:12 pm in reply to: Average time between documents delivered and registered as received? #14236UpsidedownParticipantHi our documents sat at Durham for 4 weeks before they acknowledged receipt. We did call at 3 weeks as we received another reminder that said our applications would be cancelled unless documents received. Spoke to a very helpful lady from the processing in Wales who emailed Durham and documents received officially a few days later.
