Ours went to Processing the day after documents were officially received. I’m assuming this is because one document needs to be used for both applications. Fortunately we are not waiting on them for travel, as they sat on the documents for 4 weeks before acknowledging receipt and have been in processing for 3 weeks now.

If all first adult passport applications have to have an interview, what do they do if you are abroad?

@penfold69 mine were signed for in Durham on 14 March but not logged as received until 13 April. The following day moved to processing and have sat there ever since.

We got the same automated texts – the last time it said that our application would be cancelled and no refund given if documents were not received by May. I phoned and got through to a person who emailed the Durham office with all our details, including the RM tracking number, and the documents were officially received a few days later.

Hi – yes we have had it. The last one we got said that if they didn’t receive our documents by May that our application would be cancelled and no refund given. I phoned them after that one and miraculously got through, was put through to processing where I spoke to a lovely women who was very helpful and concerned. She said she was making notes on our applications and emailed Durham with all details including our RM tracking number. We received the notification about 3 or 4 working days later that they had received our documents. (however, the following day moved to the dreaded processing phase!)

Hi, we are in Australia too applying for a first UK passport (dual citizens). The big delay for us has been the gap between Royal Mail delivering documents (signed for in Durham on 14 March) and being officially received (over 4 weeks later).

Below is our progress so far:

Application being processed 2:31pm on 14 April 2022
    Documents received 12:21pm on 13 April 2022
    Application received 5:45am on 24 February 2022
Identity details received 5:44am on 24 February 2022
Email sent to person confirming your identity 7:25am on 22 February 2022
Ask someone to confirm your identity 6:59am on 18 February 2022
    Application submitted 6:59am on 18 February 2022

Elsewhere on this forum you will read that HMPO has said the 10 weeks processing time is from when they receive documents, but in practice it seems to be extremely variable and unpredictable. (In contrast when my daughter applied for hers in 2019 the whole process took exactly 2 weeks from posting everything off and receiving the passport!)

I realise our situations are slightly different but hope this helps give you some idea about processing times for overseas applications from Australia.

We moved into the processing stage last week on 14 April the day after documents were scanned in as “received”. Considering they had been signed for a month previously we were relieved (first passport application from overseas, including foreign passport which would have been expensive to replace if they’d lost it!) It looks like there is a lot of variation – some people move to approved after a few days, while some take longer. In our case there is a document which will need to be used for both applications and I’m not sure whether that will delay things or make no difference.

Just received emails that our documents have been received!

Delivery was tracked (which is why I know they received it on 14 March). I phoned on Friday and the lady I spoke to took notes and said she was emailing the Durham office.

Have you got anywhere with them @Adiq? I hope that the person making notes on the files will stop them from cancelling the application, and also very worried they have lost our documents!

This is as far as we’ve got:

    Application received 5:41am on 24 February 2022
Identity details received 5:40am on 24 February 2022
Email sent to person confirming your identity 9:30am on 22 February 2022
Ask someone to confirm your identity 6:39am on 22 February 2022
    Application submitted 6:39am on 22 February 2022

They’ve had identity documents since 14 March according to Royal Mail but we keep getting emails asking us to send our documents. There was no rush about our passports but we are getting anxious about the delay in finding our documents, especially as the last email said if they don’t get them in a couple of weeks our applications will be cancelled with no refund.

The last time we went through this process was 2019 and it took 3 weeks including sending documents from Australia to the UK and then the passport being sent here!

I got through just after lunchtime last Friday afternoon, waiting time was only 10 minutes.

18th Feb. I have just got off the phone, they have added case notes to the application numbers and sent details to Durham so they will look for the documents. They were surprised as it is 19 working days since the documents were delivered by Royal Mail. I only had to wait 10 minutes to speak to someone so it could be worth calling if you are worried.
