For UC cases (Urgent Compassionate cases), your best bet would be to go to the passport office dealing with your application (going to other offices may not be helpful as you may have to wait for hours/days to get the passport application approved by the office dealing with it) and request them. You may not need to stand in a queue as long as you have some documentation like medical certificate/death certificate or something relevant to your circumstances. If you are there by morning 7am, you should be out with your passport by 11am other things being ok. (I say 7am, so that you maybe ahead in the queue. Normally, they will let you in around 8-8.30am).
vsn22ParticipantYou can go alone as long as you are the parent/carer named on the application.
When you collect your passport, they will check your photo identity and ask some security questions before handing over the new passport to you. You will need to carry your identity proof.
vsn22ParticipantJust land up at Durham Passport office as early as possible today (Saturday). I think they work from 8 – 1530 on saturdays. Go with a copy of your ticket. From my understanding, if you are more than 6 weeks after submission, they will consider upgrade – for more than 10 weeks it is a free upgrade and for others it is a paid upgrade. If everything else is ok, you will get your passport in 3-4 hours. Go to the office where it is being processed. That way, they can get things done locally quicker.
vsn22ParticipantThis is the reply I got when I sent a request for upgrade this morning. It seems to be clear that the clock starts when you submit your application. It doesn’t speak about receiving the documents.
We have received your email. Please do not send any more emails as this may cause delays.
We can only consider expediting an application if:
• you submitted your application at least 10 weeks ago; and
• you have evidence to show you need a passport in the next 2 weeks. This mailbox is only for customers who submitted their application more than ten weeks ago. If this does not apply to you, you will not receive a response from this mailbox.
vsn22ParticipantCan anyone list the documents you need to carry when you go directly to the passport office?
Do I need print out of tickets? How do I show them that I have been waiting for more than 6 weeks? Can I show them by logging into the website on my mobile?
If the passport is for my child, do I have to take them with me? Or can I go by myself?
Would they ask for my identity? If so, would a driving license be sufficient?
vsn22ParticipantWould anyone be able to share the template they have used to request an upgrade?
Is there any specific subject line that needs to be used to catch their attention?
How long have people been waiting to receive call backs?
vsn22ParticipantHi,
I had requested an upgrade on compassionate grounds couple of weeks back with all requested documents needed for this.Today, I received an email saying that I am not eligible for an upgrade as I am not past 6 weeks of processing. I am in the 9th week of documents received & 11th week of application. My understanding so far was that 6 weeks from documents received is the eligibility for upgrade. Has anyone else had similar replies/experiences?
vsn22ParticipantHi,
I have a few questions:
1. Are Bootle & Liverpool Passport offices the same? Does anyone have the address?
2. I understand that the waiting time is from the time the application was submitted to receipt. However, I would like to know if this includes weekends and bank holidays?
3. My documents were received on 29th April and confirmed on the website. However, I received another text on 7th June saying that my documents have been received. What does it mean? The website shows it as the earlier date though. The application is for a child damaged passport replacement.
