My delivery process was:
Passport delivered by TNT – 21 March 2022
Supporting documents returned by Royal Mail – 16 March
Passport printed – 14 March 2022
Application approved – 11 March 2022Like some others on this forum, I never received any updates from TNT. I kept checking their tracker using my postcode and Passport Office reference number regularly and my passport started showing up on the TNT system from 18 March.

VZZZParticipantLike many here, I’ve been quite stressed about the times and, most importantly, lack of updates/info by the Passport Office. My application was for a first adult passport after naturalisation and I just received my passport today. If it helps anyone, my process was as follows:
Passport delivered by TNT – 21 March 2022 (I never received any updates from TNT but the TNT tracker started showing my passport in their system from 18 March)

Application being processed – 23 February 2022
Documents received – 13 February 2022 (Royal Mail actually delivered the documents on 4 February)
Application submitted and received – 31 January 2022VZZZParticipantApplication for a first adult passport after naturalisation approved today (11 March) after being stuck in the processing stage since 23 February.
I called a couple of times this week and also submitted a few requests using the online form asking for either my British passport or my foreign one back in time for a mandatory appointment on 1 April where a passport is the only acceptable form of ID.

Application is for a first adult passport following naturalisation. I submitted my naturalisation certificate and current foreign passport.
This week I also called HMPO every other day and submitted enquiries using the online form stating that I needed a passport back (either the British one or my foreign one) in time for a mandatory appointment on 1 April. Not sure if my persistence helped but it’s all one can do. I was also promised call-backs that never materialised.

VZZZParticipantHi trent
I’m totally with you regarding the difficulty caused by the process to British citizens overseas.
I’m a dual British and Norwegian citizen in the UK so have been living “overseas” for a long time as far as Norwegian authorities are concerned. The process to renew a Norwegian passport in the UK is very simple. You apply online and then attend a short meeting in the London embassy or or one of the regional consulates, where your details and scans of the old passport are taken. You then get to keep the old passport and only have to hand it in when you collect the new one (which takes no more than two weeks by the way).
No hassle at all apart from the initial meeting, which admittedly is an issue if you don’t live in London or near one of the regional consulates. I’d still take that over not having a passport for 5-10 weeks!
Not sure why a similar system can’t be adopted by the UK…but what do I know…must be some very good reason for it…
VZZZParticipantMy application for a first adult passport after naturalisation has been in the “Your application is being processed” stage since 23 February.
Called this morning to enquire about requesting my current foreign passport back early (submitted as a supporting document). I have an important appointment on 1 April for which a passport is mandatory – either my foreign one or the new British one.
Was told that “application is being processed” means that my documents have been scanned in and processed and that it’s now with the printing office, which can take around three weeks from the date of processing (23 February). The helpful gentleman said I should hopefully receive the British passport next week or the week after – i.e. by 11 or 18 March, with the supporting documents to follow a few weeks after.
I still have my doubts and have requested a call back from the ‘Processing Team’ to explore the early return of supporting documents further.
VZZZParticipantHi all
I’ve applied for a first adult passport after naturalisation at the Liverpool Office. I’m getting quite nervous (like others here) as I have travel booked at the end of March. It’s unreasonable to expect someone to hand in their current foreign passport as a supporting document for months! It’s also unreasonable to expect people to not book travel for months given that flights become more expensive the closer you get to the anticipated travel date.
Current status:
Application being processed – 23 February 2022
Documents received – 13 February 2022
Application received – 31 January 2022Note that the documents were registered as received on 13 February despite Royal Mail delivering them on 4 February. Also note that it took 10 days from documents received to application being processed.
Does anyone know what “Application being processed” even means in this context?
