Unfortunately there isn’t a lot you can do as they will be in a mailroom somewhere. They are focusing on opening applications and supporting documents over sending them back. In my experience it took 3 weeks for my supporting documents to arrive back. As it’s a passport you’re waiting for back did you pay to get it returned by secure delivery? If so you can track it using the same pex number as your application

Best advice would be to go to your nearest office 48 hours before your flight with full details and proof of travel. You will need to pay an upgrade fee but you should get the passport as long as everything is in order
wanting3ParticipantLunaCallista075 you will need to apply for an upgrade when it’s within 2 weeks of you travelling. Expedite only works if it’s been over 10 weeks. If you explain your reasons for needing the passport they may get it processed in time. Usually it’s not until 48-72 hours before travel but if you explain you need it for an esta they might get it done sooner but no guarantees. You will also need to pay a fee for each passport too if it’s been less than 10 weeks.
wanting3ParticipantI believe they are meeting them it’s just a case of actually being able to get an appointment for the service. From what I’ve read on this forum when appointments do become available they are several weeks away.
wanting3ParticipantJulir usually you get any supporting documents returned to you within 3 weeks of receiving your passport. They are in a mailroom somewhere so it’s unlikely if you turn up to the passport office that they will be able to find them and give them to you as they are prioritising scanning in applications and received documents. I’m sure if you make them aware though of your situation they might be able to speed things up.
wanting3ParticipantCarmellaSorano I believe you can upgrade a child’s first passport but you have to have been 6 weeks from application/documents received depending on who you talk to and 2 weeks of travel. Best bet is to ring the helpline when those two criteria are met and asked to get added to the upgrades list.
July 17, 2022 at 7:57 pm in reply to: Do I need to submit ID documents for replacement passport? #18953wanting3ParticipantI don’t believe you need to send any ID. If you did your application digitally then you should have been emailed to ask someone to confirm your identity digitally. If you sent a paper application then you would need one of your photos countersigned and that’s it.
wanting3ParticipantWhen I needed to send extra documents to Durham this is where I was told to send them in an email I received. You will need to put your pex number in the address.
HM Passport Office
UK-DOCS
PEX 123 456 7890
Freemans Reach
Riverside Place
Durham
DH1 1SLMy application was also approved a week after they received this so hopefully it should get processed pretty quick

wanting3ParticipantIf it’s a paper application you can use this form
https://passportofficeforms.service.gov.uk/_/track-application.ofml
wanting3ParticipantWas it digital check and send or paper? I applied using the digital check and send and as soon as the application was submitted I got an email and text with the reference numbers. They were also on the receipt. Maybe try the web form to see if they can find your application number.
wanting3ParticipantAmber9514 they are now checking you booked your flights before applying for a passivity to crack down on people booking cheap flights to get an upgrade. Doing this probably won’t work now and will just waste more money. If you’ve been waiting over 10 weeks you don’t need to have travel booked. You can still turn up to the office and get the application sorted
wanting3ParticipantFrom my experience a month ago my passports took 5 days from print until delivery. They were printed on a Wednesday and Thursday and arrived the following week. I’d say track them on the tnt website (there is a special tracking page for passports) and once they have actually
Been picked up by tnt it will show you when it’s expected to be delivered. However one of mine arrived by dpd so obviously the tracking didn’t work! Hopefully yours will arrive Mondaywanting3ParticipantYou can’t book an appointment online if you already have an application in. You will just get turned away and probably won’t get your money back. If you applied more than 6 weeks ago and travel within 2 weeks you need to ring the helpline and put an upgrade request in. You may or may not be lucky and it gets actioned. If it doesn’t you need to go to your local passport office 48 hours before travel. If it’s been less than 10 weeks you’ll have to pay a fee though. As long as everything is in order and you have proof of travel there shouldn’t be an issue of you getting your passport. Just be prepared for a last minute trip to the office though!
wanting3ParticipantTry calling 0300 330 0901. I rang as soon as they opened and got through very quickly. It can be hit and miss how much help you get depending on who you talk to though. Second time I rang they put in for the progress team to call me and they did 24 hours later.
wanting3ParticipantI’ve read of people who have booked cheap tickets just so they can speed their application up. Unless they have now changed the rules to stop people trying to get ahead of the queue it seems a little strange. Maybe they didn’t meet the other requirement of having the application in at least 6 weeks. I would have thought there would have been many people who book holidays after applying for their passport so definitely worth checking if you must have booked travel before applying.
