Absolutely fantastic. I was so overwhelmed with the efficiency and the speed. I truly thought I would be waiting ages especially as I had applied just before a bank holiday and just for a standard issue (£75) But it took just 7 Days! I want to thank the staff that are working hard behind the scenes that made this happen.
I applied online and sent my old passport off the same day with Royal Mail sign and track ( so that you know when old passport has been delivered)
I recommend you give details for texts/email updates. They really let you know every step of the way what is happening.
I did not pay for the fast track service. But would advise you do if you need your passport quickly, as the speed of service was outstanding for me so I can only imagine how superior it would be if you need to have your passport done quickly and cannot wait.
If you can wait and money is an issue go for the standard service but my experience may not be yours so please way up your options first and allow time for it to arrive,

After 7 weeks I emailed to the complaint email address listed on https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/hm-passport-office/about/complaints-procedure
They replied within 10 minutes to say the passport was waiting to be checked.
After 10 weeks I emailed again to the complaints address. Once again replied in 10 minutes and said my complaint was escalated as the passport application had been ten weeks.
After 12 weeks I emailed the complaints address a third time. Replied immediately that my passport was being looked at.
The following day I received an email that the passport was approved and was being printed.
The passport was received 13 weeks (92 days) after the application was received by HMPO.
