Daughters first adult passport submitted two weeks after mine and she received her passport last week. I am now in week 9 so next week I should get a different recording on phone other than “thank you for calling HM Passport. We will contact you when we have further update”. I just have to wait. And wait.

I applied for my first passport after naturalisation on May 26th. I was not able to send the supporting documents until Jun 7th as I needed my passport for travelling. The passport office changed the status to ‘Documents received’ on Jun 10th; after that the status did not change during the month of June. I have travel booked on Jul 20th so I started to get stressed during the first days of July after noticing that the average waiting time started increasing and reading experiences that applications were taking a long time.
I decided to send an enquiry on the passport office website to ask about my application on Jul 5th; the HMPO team replied on the same day but the response wasn’t that helpful. They said that my application had been received and that it could take up to 10 weeks before applying for my passport.
I then received an email from the passport office the next day saying that my application had been approved, which was such a relief. I don’t know if my enquiry helped in any way or it was just a coincidence my application was approved just one day after sending the enquiry.

I am absolutely astonished. After hearing all the awful experiences that people have been having, and bracing myself for a long wait, I received the passport in a week (and this was just a standard application, not a fast track).
I submitted my application on 30th June. My old passport was sent to them on Friday 1st July. I received an email on Tuesday 5th July to say my old passport had been received. I then received another email same day to say my application had been approved. Another email on Wednesday 6th July to say the passport had printed and it then delivered to my door at 9.30am on Friday 8th July.
Absolutely brilliant service. Informed all the way and really quick.

It took nearly 3 weeks to register my old passport as received – had sent Royal Mail tracked so I know it was received. It then says to allow 10 weeks from their receipt of the old passport.
No further progress information was logged on my online application for another 6 weeks.
No one could give any progress information and never received the 48hr callbacks to register for an upgrade.
I emailed my MP 4 days before departure. Received a call that day. My application was approved and printed within 24 hours, collected in person from the Durham office.
I had still had to pay the additional amount for a fast track passport even though they’d openly advised my application had been sat in the backlog.

I sent in an online renewal application on April 22, as my existing passport expired on August 27, and so would not have had three months left at the time I hoped to travel. With no news by about May 20 and a trip to France booked for early June, I enquired about a fast track upgrade. Initially I was told that would be possible. Later, after a two hour wait on the phone, I was told I was not eligible as I had “only” been waiting five weeks, and not six. Then I was called and told to email the upgrade department with travel details and I would be contacted within 48 hours. I was not, so the trip was cancelled and I eventually received my new passport on July 5. The whole experience was shockingly bad.

Used Check and Send. Impossible to speak to anyone and did not get replies to tracking until recently when I filled in enquiry forms. Then I got several emails asking for the same information over again. Then this morning had a text from TNT at 7am to say it would be delivered today and it was put through my letterbox around 8.30 am. Nothing from HMPO to say it was on it’s way even though they had emailed at 12,19 pm yesterday to give advice as to who to phone if I wanted to expedite it, as if I wouldn’t after waiting 13 weeks! Clearly they had no idea it was already on its way. The system is totally shambolic , in fact there is no system! It has been beyond stressful, having missed out on one trip.

Despite several pleas to HMPO to expedite the processing of my daughter’s passport application, and postponing our trip abroad by 10 days, we still did not receive her passport on time. We therefore had to cancel our trip, losing about £1,000 in the process. Contacting HMPO via their telephone helpline was almost completely useless — in 6 telephone calls (plus 2 additional callbacks from HMPO) over the course of two weeks, and being put on hold for about 5 hours while being transferred to the expedited processing team, we gained absolutely no information about the status of the passport application. We even had our constituency MP write to HMPO on our behalf, but none of his three letters (since 9th of June) seemed to make any difference. The whole application process was very stressful and disappointing.

Only realised that my son’s passport had expired last month and we are due to travel during the first week on August. Checked for emergency passport appointments but none available, thought I should try the emergency travel certificate route but the site stated that it could take weeks especially for a child’s passport so I just submitted the standard application and hoped for the best 2days after, I got a notification that the old passport had been received. Luckily I only live 20 minutes from the office it was being processed. Queued for 3 hours, once inside very helpfull, passport application was pulled out and processed the same day. Passport received direct from the office 2 days later.

So grateful to have found @ukpassportcheck on Twitter. We discovered on Monday 4th that my son’s passport had expired and are due to travel Monday 11th… couldn’t get a fast track time online on the Government website at all – it just kept saying due to so much demand there were currently no appointments and to check back later. Then someone told us about the Twitter account @ukpassportcheck where they monitor the website every minute and we could be notified as soon as new slots opened.
As soon as we got a notification at 5pm on Tuesday 5th that the fast track appointments were online we went on and got a fast track appointment in London for Wed 6th July 9:15. we received the passport at 11am Saturday 9th July!! 3 days!
