I submitted my passport application with digital check and send which went smoothly other than my photo being rejected due to incorrect background colour. I found this surprising due to the photo being taken with a white background and checked by two post office staff members. I went to a Photo Booth and submitted a new photo the same day and my application accepted the day after. My passport was printed the day after that. It has been 4 days since I received my passport and I have received the refund letter for the post office but I am yet to receive my documents.

I’m going to New Zealand next month with a layover in Singapore where my passport has to have 6 months validity when entering the country. After seeing all of the news about the chaos with expiration dates, I decided to take a risk and renew my child passport (I am now 18, so have my adult passport now) just to be on the safe side. I was extremely worried with how long it would take to arrive due to the fact I have to sort out visas etc, however I haven’t got a single bad thing to say. I had no issues at all and was pleasantly surprised with how I was kept in the loop with everything going on.
I’m not sure what passport office mine was sent to and I obviously understand that I was extremely lucky with how quickly I got my passport and this may not be the case with everyone, but if you need to renew before a holiday coming up, I would say to just do it.

Overall very impressed with the speed of service. I was worried as I applied with 7 weeks to go until our holiday. I could not get a fast track appointment so was advised by the passport office to do a standard application.

Passport sat in processing stage from beginning of May until 7th July. Was delivered within the 10 weeks (just) but it didn’t seem like anyone looked at it for the first 9 weeks!
Text number was able to confirm the lost reference was attached to the application and there were no other issues which was helpful as it was hard to get through on the phone. From approving to receiving the passport only took 2 working days which was impressive!

The only delay was having to send my own UK birth certificate, which was rejected at first. I sent another one the next day but also called them explaining the first one was completely legal and contained all the information. I’m not sure if it was the call or the second certificate (which looked exactly the same only this time it contained a compliment slip signed and stamped by the registration office) but it was approved the following day. The time taken to print and receive was 5 days. I am extremely grateful, and also very thankful for this page which gave me hope.

I tried initially to get a fast track service, but there were no appointments, and I never got through to a person on the phone. A notice on the tracker saying that my passport was being processed (20th May) disappeared. When I was within a week of travel, I decided to go to the Liverpool passport office to join the queue on the pavement. Priority was given to appointments and those with more immediate travel. Initial indications that we just might be seen were unfounded. We were told to come back within 48 hours of departure: I did, and waited a further 8 hours on the pavement. Third time lucky: within 24 hours departure after another whole day spent in Liverpool I came away with my passport. No point going there at present sooner than within 24 hours.
Everybody was friendly despite the stress each person was under, including the staff. It is complete mayhem and there was a general complaint about the lack of communication, on the web/telephone and in the queue. Many people had difficult stories to tell.
Average waits hardly apply at present, because some applications are being quickly processed, especially from June on, but there is a big backlog from March/April/May that isn’t being cleared.
If you need your passport urgently, bite the bullet and go there!

When I called for updates, first call handler just kept saying call back in a few days – didn’t seem to understand what the issue was. Second handler helped slightly, but never heard back until after passport had arrived.
