After posting my old passport from NL to UK it took the passport office two weeks before they told me they had received. After that the process was very quick.
They denied my first counter signatory and had to get a second counter signatory delaying my process.
This child’s renewal was for my grandson using the Post Office check and send service. If the date of confirmation of receipt of the application is taken as the start date, then the renewal time was 21 days – 3 days before the planned travel date!
Passport took 3 days to arrive from when it was dispatched, even though I paid extra for return delivery.
We did find that there was inconsistent information from various call centre people and the chat function over average timescales for the application.

It took 7 days for the supporting documents to appear as received on the system. I have no news of how or when I’ll receive them back.
Royal mail confirmed delivery (signed for) on 24th Jan but it took until 31 Jan to receive a text from HMPO saying they had it. After that though it took just one week to approve.
Overall process was great and quick, only made stressful by my own tight travel plans.

Durham office. Took 1 week for old passport to show as received.
Delays around old passport actually being sent, and then received but once the old passport had receipt confirmed – the application itself was quick.
Needed passport within 4 weeks and process felt stressful initially but then finding this site and seeing actual average times (i.e. not the gov.uk generic “4 weeks” figure really took the stress out of the situation.
This was with Glasgow. Had an almost identical application for other child with Liverpool, who were 6 days quicker! Still pleased though.
Excellent, straightforward and easy.
Only “delay” was the acknowledgement of receipt of my old passport which was a week from the package being signed for and the passport office updating the status of the application.
No TNT reference received once application was approved but arrived 2 days after approval.
Took long time to acknowledge the receipt of supporting documents (signed for on 25/01 but scanned on 1/02). After that everything else was quick.
Took 11 days to register they’d received the old passport.
Peterborough office. Passport originally went out for delivery on 5 Feb but didn’t arrive until 7 Feb.
Very quick from start to finish. Likely to be a different story if I wasn’t applying in January.
