I was VERY stressed and couldn’t get an appointment, so once it got to 3ish weeks away from the holiday, I just applied for a renewal the regular way. The process was very fast for me and I received my new passport 15 days from when I submitted my application. The longest part was waiting for the tracking to update from ‘application received’ to ‘documents received’. Old passport (‘documents’) were signed for on 17 May but the system didn’t update until 24 May. Very smooth process and I will get to go on holiday!

Hemel Hempstead Office. Took a few days to acknowledge receipt of documents. I knew my photo was garbage so I had a proper one done prior to rejection. Once the rejection came the process went pretty quickly. I had to apply for three passports on that day and so far I have had two back – one to go. Fingers crossed.

Whole process from application to delivery took 3 weeks and thankfully not the 10 weeks advised, so not a bad experience considering. Stressful bit is not having any info until your old passport is logged (this took 2 weeks). After that it was quick and you get updates too. If your passport isn’t logged after 2 weeks then call them on their general number, but go through to the General Enquiries bit where you’re more likely to talk to someone and simply ask for a call-back. Someone called me back from the renewals department the same day and I didn’t have to wait ages in a queue.

Flying on 09/06/2022 and could not get a fast track appointment despite trying at all times of day and night to refresh website. Ended up just applying through the normal process online. Definitely helps if you get photos done at a booth which then gives you an online code. I also put a note in with my old passport with my date of flying, flight number and reservation number, whether that made a difference I don’t know. I also emailed all of the upgrade teams when it got to 2 weeks before my flight, and my application was approved the next morning. Again, whether those emails made a difference I don’t know. Make sure you send your old passport by recorded delivery for your own peace of mind, as they won’t confirm receipt for at least 10 days. Also don’t bother emailing the upgrade teams unless your flight is within the next 2 weeks. All in all, it looks like they are finally getting on top of the big backlog and getting passports issued fairly quickly now.

Took just over 5 weeks from application to receipt of passport which is in line with the original advertised processing time before they hiked it to 10 weeks to manage expectations and made everyone worry.
Asked to confirm identity twice for some reason, almost three weeks after documents received, but like other peoples experience it was approved the following day.
Overall, was an efficient service, just made stressful for all the wrong reasons.
