Overall the process was very easy and the processing time reasonable (about 1 month from online application until I received it). However, the tracking is a double edged sword, it is very efficient in the early stages but once humans are involved it starts to have massive delays which can be angst provoking if you need the passport by a set time. For example it took more than a week to notify me of the reception of the paperwork and after two weeks of no updates the passport was approved. Furthermore, I have received the passport before the shipping tracking link. I would recommend making this a less sophisticated tracking system but that it is actually up to date.

It took 16 days for supporting documents to show as received on the application tracker. This is despite them arriving in 2 days (Royal Mail signed for delivery tracking).
14 days for HMPO Peterborough to book them in?!?

Corby office. Approved Weds 16 March, printed Mon 21 March and delivered Friday 25 March. No tracking number sent by TNT but about 4.30 Thursday afternoon when searching using passport application number I was able to track on the TNT website.

Anyone who has a child with dual citizenship must enclose the foreign passport as well. The only reason we got this as ‘fast’ as we did was due to medical reasons for the trip, otherwise there’s no chance we would have received it before April. Terribly fragmented and stressful system to prove a medical condition to the HMPO

Well where can I begin..
The application processing and received passport went by really quick, then to go from received old passport to approval took about 2 weeks then this is when the stress started. My new passport got approved and still hadn’t been printed(this was a week past) so I rang them and every time I rang them it was always (we will give you a call back within 24 hours) I never did. I rang the passport office 7 times to find out what was going on and none of the calls were helpful! My passport got printed on the following Monday and I received it on the Wednesday.

Passport office kept up their end of the wait times 5weeks – but it took 1 week from print for TNT to deliver it so over all 6 weeks to renew a passport didn’t have to send documents anything like that. What I would call a standard renew.

Having sent my old passport Tracked and Signed for, I know there over a week delay between my old passport having been received and it appearing as received on the tracker.
Although some updates received, it felt like the Passport Office were continually telling me not to contact them with questions or requests for information. The updates were quite vague too advising that a certain step had been reached but no insight of that on an expected delivery date.

No issues, appears process as automated as possible as it went from documents received > passport approved > passport printed with no additional steps in between.
My old passport was delivered to them 3rd March but was only marked as “documents received” on 9th March, so it took 6 days for them to get to the mailbag my passport was in – for peace of mind I recommend sending your documents with at least a signed-for service as this saved me a lot of worry, to know it had been delivered when I was not at that point getting any updates from the Passport Office.

This has been stressful as we booked a holiday without having all necessary passports. Durham took 10 days to acknowledge receipt which was stressful, then approval was within 3 days then silence until 5 days later when we heard it had been printed. Luckily one arrived within 4 and the other 6 days of that date. I did speak with a very helpful man on the helpline who reassured me that they were very likely to arrive in time.

I submitted my application online with a digital photo. I did already have a holiday booked 8 weeks after my application was submitted but I thought this would be fine – I was wrong (almost!)! It look around 10 days for an update that my old passport was received, then a further 8 days to highlight I needed to send my dual nationality passport (which was at another address), a further 8 days to notify me this was received. When I phoned up the passport office they were extremely unhelpful and had no idea where my documents were and it took 8 days for a call back. My application was finally approved and my documents sent out via TNT which I read were a notoriously bad delivery service with some passports not turning up for months. My document was originally meant to be delivered on a Saturday, I rescheduled for the Monday and it never showed up. I phoned up TNT which is an automated robot and very unhelpful – however I managed to get through to an advisor (comments on how below) and got a reschedule for Wednesday. Wednesday came and I got a delivery but it was my old passports (how did they arrive before my new one?!) and then finally my new passport arrived later that day. Extremely stressful! Luckily it still arrived before my holiday so I can still go and not lose out.
Words of advice:
1. If you have dual nationality, definitely send all documents in one go so they arrive together and there is no delay.
2. Don’t book a holiday before 10 weeks of updating passport just in case – I know they state this online but trust me on that.
3. If you need to call up TNT to see where your passport is and all you get is the automated robot, just say ‘please put me through to an advisor’ and you will be put through to an actual human being who can help.

Reapplied for my passport giving myself 19 clear weeks before going in holiday. I had lost my last passport and reported it through the HMRC website. I also had to change my name over to my married name (I don’t do things by half). It was sat in someone’s desk for a whole month before I got a message to say they wanted my old passport before continuing! Finally after messaging back and forth I received it a few days ago 20 days before we fly. Once ai got back in touch they were on it straight away, but I wonder if I hadn’t would I have received it in time?
