Applied through PO check and send 25th April. Even though I received an email confirming an upgrade from Glasgow Update Team 15th June, I heard nothing more and could not get anywhere by calling HMPO, nor following the text process. The day before flight I was told that although I had received the upgrade notification it didn’t mean I would actually get my passport.
I went down to Peterborough Passport Office at 7.30 am 27th June, without appointment. They were brilliant and I received my passport after they contacted Glasgow upgrade team and charged the fee £92. I received my passport at 13.30.
Time taken 9 weeks 2 days.
Shocking to be charged an upgrade fee when the delay is due to staff not processing applications with due diligence and in a fair, timely manner. I completed the witness section of my neighbours application 2 weeks after my own application and their passport arrived a week before I went to the Peterborough office.
Very stressful, if you have been waiting more than 6 weeks and have your flight booked I suggest going to the passport office. ( Apparently not London – I was told they won’t see anyone without an appointment)

I did not receive this by mail. I had to go to the passport office at 7am, line up for 4 hours to get seen, wait another 3 hours for it to be printed. If you need your passport urgently, go to the office with evidence of travel (my flight was within 24hrs). So long as your application has been submitted and you have been waiting, they should be able to print it for you.

Reading all the horror stories really started to stress me out and go into panic mode, however must have been a lucky one as arrived just over 4 weeks of applying. First passport photo was rejected so went and paid to have one taken and inputted code and straight away it came up as approved and 10 days later passport received.

We have been calling every week to get advice for our newborns first passport. We are overseas in Spain and desperately need to travel to the UK to see my father in law who is very ill. Passport office no help at all but the worst thing is I’ve been given contradictory advice so their staff are incompetent. One even processed an upgrade for us so we could travel then I found out 2 days later you cannot upgrade if overseas. This already stressful period for our family has been made even worse by HMPO.
I have applied from Australia for a first UK passport . My documents arrived March 14th although acknowledged nearly four weeks later. It was then updated to processing but taken back to received after 10 weeks. Very frustrating and stressful as I was also required to send my Australian passport.
hi Elizabeth. Your experience is both super frustrating and sadly very relatable to ours! Applied for a first UK child passport for our daughter who was born in Poland. Sent documents on 24th of May by special delivery, they acknowledged having received them on June 14th, and heard nothing since! I was just wondering if you got the passport yet, or are still waiting?

Very poor service mine was submitted on 6/05/22 and 8 weeks later still not received my daughters was a renewal and took 2 weeks both sent at same time had to cancel one holiday lost my money ,when phoning office to try and chase they tell you a pack of lies eg we only received you passport 3 weeks ago lies as I have emails to say you had it 8 weeks
