My passport had expired but I also had to change my name due to getting married. I applied for it on the 13th send my certificate away the next day and it has came just over 2 weeks later. Was really easy and fast was worried it would take a while after reading some people were waiting over the 10 week waiting time that they give you but had no problems at all.

Very easy process, the only thing that made me feel stressed was all the media coverage of passports taking longer than 10 weeks! Happily we received our sons first passport in 5 weeks and 2 days. I had heard that child’s first passport was the one taking the longest so I worried (we’re going away in late August) but it seems pretty quick and seamless to me!

It seems that different passport offices throughout the UK have different processing times..
We are in an urgent, desperate situation stuck abroad. Our housing contract ended on the 30th June here in Switzerland and we had planned to leave on the 29th June, we are now being put up in temporary accommodation. We want to come home to the UK but HMPO have not even scanned in our documents after 7 weeks of receiving them. We have ended up applying for emergency travel documents which we are still waiting on since 7th June. We just wanted to get our of Switzerland where we currently live to go home to the UK for my father’s funeral, HMPO advisor suggested I should leave my 2 month old nursing baby and go to the funeral alone! Distasteful, terrible, traumatising advice to give to a mum struggling with postnatal depression and the sudden loss of her father all at the same time! We don’t want a passport for a holiday, we just need to go home.
