I was very nervous applying for a passport given the stories in the media, however, with a 20 day turnaround I don’t see what all the fuss is about?

I was advised by a friend who works for the PO to not go through Royal Mail as their photo taking and application filling out usually results in problems and delays. So I took the photo myself and filled out the online application which took minutes. The longest wait (as everyone says) is the PO logging your old passport as received, but after that it didn’t take long at all. See timings below:

My passport was with Liverpool Old Hall Street. If you’re even more fortunate enough to have your passport at Liverpool Bootle office I believe their turnaround is a lot quicker (1-2 weeks) based on the experience of a few friends.

Overall a fairly easy experience. We applied for 2 1st child passports on the same day. Was surprised to see the applications were sent to different offices. 1 was sent to Liverpool and the other to Corby.

Both applications were them just 24 hours apart- showing that despite being at different offices the process seems to be similar times.
As can see had some problems with photos- even when took professionally- but this led to limited delay

We had no issues and were surprised how fast the passports came back. It was a great help having your website. We had two passport applications submitted at the same time which arrived one day apart. I will try and add the second passport info to this forum too.

We found it a speedy process. I just wish they kept live updates on how long each stage takes to process. They do update each stage, but it would be great to know when you are expected to go through to the next one! We found it a fast turn around despite the 10 week allowance.

It was easy to apply online from New Zealand. The most stressful part is waiting, with no updates. If it was documented somewhere the process of renewing then I wouldn’t have had 2 months of stress thinking my passport was lost in the system. The longest wait was waiting for confirmation my passport had been received by HMPO Durham, 3 week and then 3 weeks processing to be approved.

Worth knowing that it can take up to 3 weeks to scan in your supporting documents/old passport and if you contact them before this they just suggest you get in touch again after the 3 week period. However once those documents are scanned in it was all very quick. Overall I’m pretty happy and didn’t need to stress.
