I was in processing from 7April. I am flying staff for an airline, and work was restricted to within UK. I missed out so much work, I was very worried. The supporting documents took a long time to come back, too. This meant I could not fly to US because my other passport had the US work visa. I had three UK passports in the past but it never took this long . I hope it’s not going to take this long for the next renewal.

Average time given at 5 weeks when I submitted but vastly exceeded that. When the online update changed to ‘Application Being Processed’ I began to be optimistic. When it then changed back to ‘We’ve received your old passport’ I began to panic.
Seeing on this site that people applying in May and June were receiving their passports so quickly was totally disheartening. Why do they not just deal with applications chronologically from when they’re received?

Really, really great service from the Corby office. I was worried having left it 6 weeks before I needed to travel, but they got it done in 2 weeks. Submitted on 20/06/22 and posted documents 1st Class Signed For on 21/06/22 morning. Note there is a slight delay between when Royal Mail says it’s arrived and when it’s marked as received on the application. Application was approved within a week. Brilliant service.

I tried calling the official general hotline for info after 10 weeks and it just has an automated message saying ‘your application is in progress’ then call drops. The other number 01633 285419 got me straight through to a person.

Application went to Corby for my youngest daughters passport and was turned around very quickly. My elder daughters passport went to Newport on same day and apart from receiving confirmation that it has been received – absolutely nothing back from them. We travel on Friday 15th July. Is it worth me driving to Newport. I am getting desperate as the helpline goes straight to an IVR and is no help at all.

Submitted 2 x child renewals on 28/4/22 via post office check and send. Received text on 12/5/22 to say passport application received.. Holiday booked for 5/7/22 had to cancel due to not guarantee passports would be processed in time. Passport staff on phone I found rather rude and hard to understand at times due to poor English. Collected both passports today in 4/7/22 from Peterborough office. Overall experience stressful and very costly. I have spent £308.00 for 2 passports – I had to pay and extra £91.00 each.for an upgrade – the whole passport application is a shambles at the moment and seems very hit and miss.

Horrible experience!!!
It took 12 days to mark the documents as received. On 7 June another update appeared saying “Your passport is being processed”, which disappeared on 14 June. I filled out the online form twice, but no reply was received. I authorized my brother from abroad (low waiting times) to call on my behalf: he called 3 different times and the agents answered almost instantly, but the information they gave was useless.
On June 19 I received a letter (which was sent on 11 June), saying that they need another person to confirm the identity.
The new person confirmed the identity and sent the letter by mail, delivered on 21 June. On 27 June another letter arrived saying that they needed the new person to send a copy of her passport for records (this was sent the day after). Finally, on 29 June the application was approved.
The fact that they use such slow mail for delivering their letters is unacceptable. Below is the tracking update appearing on the website: no update on the letter-correspondence appeared here.
Would have paid 10x more just to not experience this stress.

Excellent experience in difficult times.
I decided to go straight for fast track despite having 8 weeks until our holiday for my baby’s first passport. This was the best decision I made.
3 week wait for appointment.
Appointment Tuesday 17th May 2pm.
Passport through door Sat 21st May 1pm.
Experience at the passport office was excellent. Very efficient, polite happy staff.
I honestly cannot fault the fast track service. Completely worth the money to save my stress levels.
