This was my 17 year old daughter’s first adult passport. The longest part of the process was the time it took for HMPO to acknowledge receipt after it had been delivered by the Royal Mail. After that it progressed quickly and we received updates by text and email throughout the process. Very relieved as we’d heard the stories of passports taking up to 6 months to renew. This was definitely not the case for us.

They wanted sons photo certified and it wouldn’t let me sign in online to give details, trying to get through was horrendous waited 5 days for them to call back then they couldn’t resolve it for me so had to wait 11 days numerous phone calls and waiting for callbacks before a resolution was given. No direct lines to the department I needed to speak to for help. Even with this hold up passport was delivered in a 6 week time frame.

Apart from the (mildly frustrating and worrying) two-week wait for confirmation that they received my old passport, everything else was quick, and confirmed by email in a timely fashion. Application completion process was very easy, including the taking and submitting of the photo.

I sent my old passport first class recorded delivery on 19th April , which when I checked the royal mail link it said signed for and received by Passport Office on 22nd April, however it took nearly 2 weeks for the Passport Office to confirm this. But from then on the process was very quick, new passport received 4 days after they confirmed my old passport had been received.
