The cost to apply for a passport is set to rise on February 2nd for people applying for the first time and renewals. On the government website they have stated the increase, which is subject to Parliamentary scrutiny, are set to rise to the following amounts:
Online Applications
- Standard Adult (renewal and first passport) will increase from £75.50 to £82.50.
- Standard Child (renewal and first passport) will increase from £49 to £53.50.
Postal Applications
- Standard Adult (renewal and first passport) will increase from £85 to £93
- Standard Child (renewal and first passport) will increase from £58.50 to £64
The government state that the new fees will help the Home Office move towards a system where the system will be funded by people that use it rather than funds coming from taxation to support it. The fees will also help fund the cost of processing passports, overseas consular support and the cost of processing British citizens at the border.
To avoid this increase you need to apply for your passport before February 2nd 2023.
