It took almost three weeks for them to have ‘received’ my old passport even though they were delivered the day after I posted them. Then it took almost three weeks to receive new passport. I tried getting updates from the online chat service who just kept telling me to wait.
I must have been unlucky as everyone else seemed to get theirs within a week or so.

I fly out in April (27 days now) and had applied for Irish passport as I’m in Northern Ireland and can hold both. I started to panic as the Irish passport hasn’t updated and unlikely to be here on time. Anyway, I thought about fast track but didn’t want to spend £155 when the renewals seemed to be quick enough, so I bit the bullet and chanced my arm and went for the renewal last week. 9 days from I applied (bank holiday and weekend included) and my passport is out for delivery today! So happy as I’m off on holiday in just over 3 weeks!

Old passport was delivered to Corby using Royal Mail Special Delivery. Appears to have been misplaced after being delivered. I was chased by HMPO multiple times to send old passport before new one could be issued but given we had planned to travel during Easter holidays, it was safer to just file a lost passport report and move application from being a renewal to it being one for a replacement. Spoke to helpdesk numerous times, some people more helpful than others. Ultimately received a notification from Royal Mail on 19 March that a parcel was being delivered to us and it arrived the next day. Passport tracker still shows status as printed hasn’t moved to dispatch.
