Easy, and quick. Text and email updates came no problem, I used special delivery to send old passport. New one was with me 6 days later (actually got it sooner than I would have had the first appointment available, if I had booked an urgent 1 week appointment).

I sent my old passport by post on Tuesday 04/03/25 by next day delivery after completing the application on line. Its receipt was acknowledged on Thursday 06/03/25 at 12:34 and the application was approved the next day as per an email sent at 20:02. I was notified it had been printed on Monday 10/03/25 at 21:26 and I received the new passport on Tuesday 11/03/25 around 12:30. I can only assume they Passport Office work 7 days a week as the turnover of just 5 days upon receipt of my old passport to the delivery of the new one was pretty outstanding!
