This was a very anxious time. 18yo son had put his passport in for a nice wash and spin dry 4 weeks before we fly. Looking back possibly wish we had done the fast track but there seemed high confidence it would be back in time and yes that’s how it turned out. However it turns out, if you look online, that if you send in a damaged passport then it it is possibly subject to all sorts of checks including in case there is any sort of fraud going on. Thankfully it stayed in the HMPO’s digital ‘DAP’ system, wasn’t taken out into their manual system, and the gap between it showing ‘Documents Received’ and ‘Application Approved’ was a pretty normal looking 8 days. Funnily enough it took an extra day to go from ‘Approved’ to ‘Printed’ i.e. 2 days which doesn’t look typical as it seems to be reliably 1 day for most other people, but just so you know, it can happen, I guess.

One tip for a lost passport is to make sure the passport office has your cancellation reference number starting with L. They have to match up the records.
