Comments:
Posted old passport on the same day as the online application guaranteed to be received next day with signature. So if time is of essence then use special delivery or tracked 24 hrs. If not for new year’s bank holiday thought the process would have been more quicker.

Passport office only requested a copy of birth certificate after submission which delayed the process. Application would have been faster if this had been requested from the outset. I applied a week before Christmas which may have affected things.

Very simple and fast, even over the winter/christmas break. Applied on 24th December, and passport was received at Hemel Hempstead on 27th. Passport received back abroad on 6th January.

I sent supporting documents three days after submitting my online application through DHL, which arrived on the 16th. HMPO confirmed all documents were received three days later, and within 48 hours my new passport is printed and approved. The passport was scheduled to arrive by the end of day on the 25th, but I had it changed to the 26th. Altogether it was within two weeks, minus the delay in sending my own documents.
