My 2-star “Stressful” rating is purely due to the uncertainty of the strike and needing my passport in order to give legal notice before our wedding in July – so relieved to have received my new passport well in time to prove my nationality! Thank you very much for this website, it helped a great deal with keeping stress levels manageable… Good luck to all those awaiting passports during the strike, it was a comfort to know that only 1 in 4 workers are not working so fingers crossed.

Overall, very pleased with the service time. Frustrating to read so many reviews on this site where majority received their new passport so quickly when they had submitted their application days after I had submitted mine and to the same passport office. They are clearly not processed in order of receipt. Would be interested to hear how the order of process is decided. Corby acknowledged receiving my old passport 9 days after receiving it. Thankful to have received new passport the day the strikes started.

Return of new passport was by DHL not Royal Mail. The passport package was damaged in transit (red wine spilled on it!). DHL did not keep me updated with this information & were very difficult to contact – it was very stressful & I would not recommend them.

Child Renewal applied for/photo verified 22 March 2023, old passport sent back as soon as instructed. Was kept informed via text and email throughout, new passport delivered 3 April 2023. Was a bit worried about the photo as we took it on an iPhone against our white bathroom wall, but came up green/good on the online photo quality checker when uploaded and no issues experienced. We’re travelling on 27 May and was a bit concerned by reported waiting times of 10 weeks, so would encourage others to apply well in advance of travel. Overall a very quick and easy experience. This was my daughter’s 4th passport so you’d think it’d be a straightforward standard renewal. However they insisted on me sending her original birth certificate. Why a certified copy is not acceptable I don’t know, especially in this digital era when you’d think a bona fide a Government agency such as HMPO would have security clearance to check personal data such as birth certificates, electoral roll etc without running the risk of sending in the originals. You’d think they wouldn’t want the risk either, shows how backward thinking an agency they are… or was there something dodgy going on? For my daughter’s last passport renewal they insisted I send them her original birth certificate (along with her brother’s), but I was suspicious they were asking this at renewal, concerned the certificates would “accidentally get lost” and wouldn’t be returned when these were beautiful hand-written certificates, so I queried this as in my opinion there was a whiff of something not right going on and that the person processing the application was looking for original birth certificates “to order”. They said to make sure the certificates were returned I had to send in a return tracked envelope, yet more cost, so I did this but sure enough the originals were misplaced just as I had feared and have never been returned, like with so many other people’s out there, and my complaint was brushed off. They have you over a barrel. To not send in the originals means you don’t get your passport… but they could change their policy to requesting certified copies or check the electronic records. I would urge caution, but what can you do… Anyway still waiting for return of original birth certificate, not got high hopes…
