Overall a very smooth and fast process. The only reason I give 4 stars is because the passport office in Corby was sitting on the documents for 11 days before acknowledging the receipt. In any case, got my passport before the Ester break and despite the strike.

The experience was very easy, the system is extremely efficient. Booking an appointment is tricky, they give conflicting advice on the phone and slots are hard to come by. I recommend calling every 30 mins or so as there might be a cancellation that means you get an earlier slot.
The interview is very easy, felt like a casual conversation rather than an interrogation. Keep ID proof (BRP, UK license) and proof of address handy as they may ask for them, although I wasn’t asked. Overall, I received the passport very promptly.

Submitted online for a non-fast track adult passport renewal – new one arrived in the post 13 days later. Documents arrived on 29 March. I think thats a result. Gave up trying to get a fast track option. <2 weeks I think is pretty good for a renewal especially with backlog and industrial action. Thanks Bootle!

Submitted passport applications for myself (adult renewal) and son (child renewal) 9pm on Sat 25 March and posted passports to Liverpool first class signed for on Monday 27 March. Documents received morning of 29 March, applications approved 1 April and both passports received separately 5 April. The passport only took 10 days from start to finish. I only found out about the passport strike on the 26th March. My passport was due to end in April and am planning on going away in May. Completed the online application on the Monday and sent the old passport by registered mail the same day.

Adult passport renewal WITH NAME CHANGE, having got married a few years ago we were worried sending our wedding certificate off with our sons passport (also for renewal) would delay things, especially with strikes just announced. It didn’t.
We used post office check and sned (costly, but peace of mind).
Got notification Monday 3rd (so 12 days after sent) to say it’d be being returned. Got notification from parcel company that they were expecting it in 4th, delivered on 5th.
Seamless, phew.

Made appointment in Liverpool. Rang customer services to make sure I had correct documents. Drove from South wales to Liverpool arrived at office to be told needed more documents. After a very stressful hour was given an appointment a few days later in Newport and told what to bring.
Arrived at Newport with everything Liverpool told me I needed to be told I needed more documents and they wouldn’t accept the applications without them. Explained that Liverpool hadn’t told me any of this to have a supporting letter waved at me by the manager on duty saying “did you show them this. I don’t care what you’ve been told I’m telling you what is the correct information you need and without it I’m not accepting this!!” Had to make another appointment and spent the day running round getting documents signed and supporting letters. Went back to 2nd appointment in Newport and application went through. Passports arrived 3 days later.
