My timeline for an online Adult Renewal, passport received through the letterbox this morning. Originally applied on the 25th April, so all in all it’s taken 7 weeks exactly from the original application date.
Missed my 2 week holiday back in May as they gave no option to upgrade, and had moved my online application to a ‘manual’ one (have been told that this sometimes happens due to system errors on their part) – because of this I had to wait for the countersignature form to arrive via post (took 7 days) and then post it back to them, which of course made massive delays.
1 had called, text, emailed daily all to be told conflicting things – mostly just that it was awaiting examination. The BEST bit of advice I can give if you’re calling up to chase for info (I don’t recommend text or email) – is when you get through to an agent, ask to be put through to the Progress Team. They’re the most helpful and have the more detailed systems (general agents only have a basic system that shows only what we can see on the online tracker).
Originally posted my old passport to Hemel Hempstead, I was told by agents on the phone it was then transferred to Durham and then transferred again to Liverpool.
All in all, DEFINITELY applying for a renewal early next time – lesson learnt!

I was required to have an interview – scheduled for a month after my initial application, but was able to phone and get a much earlier cancellation. I then had my passport approved and the interview cancelled (I did call them to check this!). I didn’t need an interview after all as only a renewal, and my passport arrived 2 days later. Little bit confusing but the team were very helpful and it was quick.

Coded passport printed photo from Photo Me booth was out with the acceptable size, but Passport Office used digital photo from the code, with greater boundaries, to crop to approved level. Clear notification of each stage, and new passport was delivered, presumably by courier, before breakfast. Awaiting return of old one, but this isn’t important.

Good and easy new website. Good communications and updates. Could have been even quicker if Royal Mail had not taken three days to deliver the old passport via their ’24hr tracked’ delivery service. Only failing by Passport Office was no advice of despatch of new passport (‘courier will contact with tracking’ is still currently showing online post-receipt of ne passport), which arrived via Royal Mail 24hr tracked again – not a courier.
