Comments:
Did not hear from them for multiple weeks until I had to request my current passport to be able to travel. Only then that I got some update asking me to align my name on my current passport (I only added my partner’s name hyphenated to mine). Unfortunately, this wasn’t possible as I’m gay in a gay marriage and Passport Office wanted me to disclose my marital status to my home country – it was a safety issue for me therefore I had to revert back to my previous name. I found the process very archaic.

I used the post office online service, it was really easy and feel it was worth the additional £16 for piece of mind, they take the photo, send the old passport back special delivery and the staff made the whole process very smooth.

Completed the form online on Bank Holiday monday then sent off my old passport via recorded delivery on the 2nd. Delivery took two days but once the passport office recieved it, I got daily updates from them with my progress via email.
Approved on day two after they received it, printed on day 3, depsatched day 4, receieved day 5.
Old passport came back about 5 days after that.

The old passport was received the next day and I received a notification. After that I didn’t hear from them for 2 weeks which was contrary to what I was reading on here.
It could have been due to the 2 bank holidays but it was quite a stressful time as we were looking to book our holiday.
