Possibly my best experience of UK Public Sector service ever, with exemplary real-time communication by automated emails and texts at every step.
I applied on-line on Sat 16-Dec-2023, but did not post my old passport by tracked Post Office mail until Mon 18-Dec-2023. So the Passport Office received old passport on Tues 19-Dec and processed, printed and despatched new one within 30 hours for me to receive it before 11am Thurs 21-Dec-2023 .. amazing.
Now all we need is for this department’s Admin and IT teams to move on to sort out the management, administration and client service communications of the NHS, the Probate Office, local Planning departments and many other public facing departments .. please!

I expected this to take longer as I was applying to renew my son’s child passport for an adult passport the day before he turned 16 – I was in a rush as I needed it before early Jan. An adviser on the phone told me there was no need for the fast track process and I’m very pleased I took him at his word as it only took 6 days, even though it was just before Christmas.

Sent the documents via Royal Mail Special Next Day Delivery but the tracking information wasn’t update on Royal mail website however, they did receive the documents so DO NOT panic
