Tried to do a renewal and name change at the same time and all got very confusing. I spoke with 8 or 9 different members of staff (all very polite) but all with different advice and went round in circles. Advice, do name changes separately to renewals and best way to get a result is to write them a letter.

We were asked to send two passports to separate offices. We queried this and were asked to choose one office, send both with a letter to ask could they be ‘linked’

My wife applied for a renewal on 15 June, which incorporated a change from maiden name. At the same time, we also applied for a child’s initial passport which came after 8 weeks and 2 days. This has been a horrendous experience and it appears to me that the applications must not be processed chronologically. As a result, we were unable to go on holiday as I did not wish to book and be at the mercy of the passport office. I truly feel sorry for anyone applying as the process with my wife well exceeded the 10 week timescale. It seems to be merely pot luck in terms of duration. Good luck everyone!
