A very distressing experience, that does not seem to end! Every time the phone rings, an immense fear of receiving a call to visit an old mother, who lives overseas, and not being able to travel immediately when requested .. no news about the passport nor the travel support documents that were sent. This can not be right!

So stressful. Very poor communication. Helplines just add more stress. They don’t actually count from the submission date it’s actually from they say they received documents. Which they lie about I have evidence to say when the documents was received and signed for. They say received 2 weeks later. So when it came to 10 weeks say they no its 8 weeks. £75 just to be stressed out. And the passport is pretty shabby for the price of it.

I found this website an immense comfort throughout the process. In the crucial days after the application was approved (we fly on Tuesday 5th July so had no wiggle room!), knowing the average turnaround was immensely helpful and I scoured the experiences pages. Particularly those submittals that included times and dates.
We applied for 2 Child first passports at the same time, and they went though the majority of the process at the same time throughout, with the exception of the printing & distpatch process where a few hours difference meant they arrived on different days. Our other daughter’s passport was marked as printed at 12.45am on 30th June (and delivered 1pm that same day, on the 30th June) , and this application was marked as printed at 3.55pm and delivered a day later, 1st July.
Another difference is we had a notification from TNT at 8.13am for my other daughter’s passport, to say it would be delivered on 30th June. We had no notification at all for this one, no tracking info sent. I was so worried the package was lost. So relieved that stress and worry is over now.

Posted renewal for our son in late March. Numerous calls and no call backs. Inconsistent advice from customer services teams. Through our MP we got the application upgraded but took a week of calls for someone to confirm this was the case. We are five days away from travel, nobody has looked at it. Having suffered a bereavement in our family in the last three weeks we desperately need this holiday but due to this absolutely appalling service we are set to miss out and lose close to £6000. We are getting no support or guidance and have no route to escalate. There must be a compensation route for this. My partner worked in the Glasgow passport office and a simple renewal takes no time. We are way over ten weeks yet HMPO still quoting ten weeks.

I’ve never had problems before and now it’s so stressful. We go in 12 days and still no passports for 2 out of 3 kids. 1 got his back within 8 weeks as he was classed as an adult at 17yrs. Glad I won’t have to go through this again for another 5 years. But of course it will be the same in 5 yrs as it will have a knock on effect for kids needing replacement in 5 or adults in 10 yrs all at same time again

Absolutely awful experience. It took 14 weeks to receive our baby’s passport. We were told it would take 12 and booked flights for 13 weeks after the application date, which obviously we missed. Everyone we spoke to on the phone was extremely unhelpful/inept. Shocking that you have no recourse if applying from abroad and they miss the deadline.
